~*~ Chilly *~*

December has rolled in with sparkle and shine.  I am feeling better and sleeping so well!  I finally got back to work, and have finished Chilly.  He is a little more distressed than the previous two snowmen.  I really like him, and he is a little more Winter and little less Christmas specific.

I do love the Christmas holidays.  Everything seems brighter and friendlier.

If you would like to visit Chilly you can do that on the Animals Page of my website....er well nevermind, he has been adopted! =}

There will be more pieces soon!  I have to decorate the tree first though!

~*~ Alby ~*~

Ta da!  Here is Alby, my Christmas bear for the ad.  Now he may not look too decked out for the holiday, but to me he is the epitome of a Christmas bear.  I will tell you why in a little story....

When I was a little girl of about 7 or 8 I had gone to the grocery store with my Grandma.  It was about a month before Christmas and at the checkout counter they had a magazine display.  On the cover of Good Housekeeping that year they had a beautiful Christmas tree with a dapper looking teddy bear sitting underneath it.  The bear was wearing a red plaid vest.

I absolutely fell head over heels in love with that bear.  I knew exactly what I was going to ask Santa for that year.  So that night I got out a pencil and piece of paper and started writing my letter.

I took my time to compose it because my penmanship was terrible and I wanted to make sure that Santa could read it.    I started out by inquiring about his health.  I respectfully asked for the bear, swearing I had been pretty good all year.  Then I wished him, Mrs. Santa and all the reindeer and elves the very best.

The next time we walked up to the post office I asked the postmaster if he could mail my letter to Santa.  Now this was hard for me to do, because I was painfully shy as a kid and was always scared to talk to people.  But I really wanted that bear.  My Grandma told me that I wouldn't be able to mail the letter because I didn't have a stamp.  But the postmaster, being a kind man said he would give me a stamp since it was a very special letter.  I remember my Grandma frowning at him.  I am sure she would have liked to have had a peek at what was in the letter since she didn't know I had already written it.

She asked me on the walk home what I had asked for.  Now having supreme faith in Santa, I said he would know when he read the letter. Poor Grandma!

Christmas morning arrived and I ran out to the living room to see where Santa had left my present.  We were very poor and couldn't afford a tree that year.  On the back of the sofa was a perfectly respectable doll.  I am sure when Grandma took a look at my face she knew that wasn't what I had asked for.

She asked me if I liked the doll.  I said yes, because I didn't want to be selfish about it.  I didn't say much else though and I tried not to cry.  Finally she got it out of me what I had asked for.  She pulled me on her lap and explained that maybe there was another child out there who needed the bear more than I did and so Santa had to make a very tough decision about who to give it to because bears like that were hard to make and he didn't have many to go around.  That actually appeased me.  Even though we were very poor, I understood the concept at an early age that there were people out there worse off than we were.

I played with the doll and loved it.  But I never completely forgot about that bear.  I think that might have been one of the very first steps that sent me in the career direction I ended up taking.  I wanted to help Santa since special bears were hard to make, and I wanted to make sure there were enough to go around so that everyone who wanted one got one on Christmas morning.

Busy Busy!

I probably won't be posting a whole lot this week. I've been decorating the house for Christmas and I have a lot to go. I also want to get things done for Ginger's Christmas Tea For All The Toys Blog Party coming up Saturday, and a new little animal that I want to use for my own a H'artfelt Christmas Blog Party the week after.

So be patient and bear with me...pun intended! *winks*

See you soon!

Cleaning And Layouts

I spent all day cleaning. I like to get the house cleaned before Christmas decorating time. I only got the vacuuming, laundry, a little assorted dusting and spot cleaning, and the powder room done. It takes me forever to clean this house. It's my own fault, I have enough stuff in here for six houses. There are days when I think I would like to back a semi up to the door and just let them cart 90% of it all away.

Artists tend to be collectors and pack rats. I suppose being poor as a child might have something to do with it too. I have no problem throwing out unnecessary items, but when it comes to all the little odds and ends I own I have a hard time doing it. As a result, my rooms are overstuffed. Plus I have books in every room.

This evening I cooked, washed dishes, watched a little TV (I was pleased with the outcome of Dancing With The Stars!) Then I worked on my Christmas website layout a bit.

I am having a hard time with it. I had this fabulous idea two months ago, and I just couldn't make it work. It's the first idea I have ever had for it that I couldn't pull off. I have been floundering ever since. I have 5 layouts done and none of them really hit the mark for what I want. I suppose I am going to have to pick one eventually. It just pains me that I can't do what I had intended.

I guess that's about it for today. I really didn't have a lot to say...I just didn't want you to think I had abandoned you, so I gave you an update on what I am doing.

I do have some great ideas for the two upcoming blog parties though, and some ideas for new pieces! So stay tuned!

Monday Love & Inpsiration: Blogs & Parties & Holidays Oh My!

Since I wasn't up to posting my usual Monday post last week, I thought I would share a little love AND inspiration today. And of course I have my announcement. But before we get to that, I want to say that I am doing better. My mouth is healing, I am ten pounds lighter, and if you ever have to get gum grafts it's not as bad as everyone makes it out to be! Plus did I mention I am ten pounds lighter!!! *giggles* I could tell you a funny pants story, but I have enough to tell in this post.

Secondly, I really want to thank everyone who visited and left me such lovely comments from the Halloween party post! Despite only 3 1/2 days to do it, and trying to recoup, I really had fun with it. The bears enjoyed it as well and want to put on more little plays for you in the future. (Actually they wanted to do War And Peace today but I told them I would pass out, so they decided maybe a break would be better. Besides I told them it's best to leave their fans wanting more for a little while!)

Ok so on to the post! I am always inspired by so many of the blogs I read. There are so many amazing and talented people out there and it's one of the better sides of the internet that we get a glimpse into their lives and get to know them a little bit through this medium!

I also love parties, and I love love holidays! No...really I LOVE holidays. I enjoyed Vanessa's party and reading every single blog that participated. It was so much fun and filled with love and inspiration of every magical variety!

So last week while I was doing everything else except eating, I decided I wanted to host a party of my own for Christmas! I know it's a little soon to think about Christmas since Halloween hasn't arrived yet, but I wanted to be sure to give people plenty of time. It's a busy time of year and I figured even if people had things to do they could get started early and have a post ready for that day.

So without further ado...*dramatic pause*...I am having the first ever A H'artfelt Christmas blog party! Everyone is invited to join in the fun...yes everyone, even that rotten boy in second grade that tried to kiss me all the time. Everyone in the entire world. Not that I expect them all to show up, just maybe 2/3 of the worlds population! *grins cheekily* So head on over to the special blog I made just for the party info, and sign up! (Don't grade me too harshly on my poor attempt at poetry please!) A couple enterprising people found the blog before I was done setting up!

I hope to see you all there!

September Blues

Today I am typing to you from my back deck. It's 84 degrees and absolutely beautiful out, even with the haze finally reaching us from the California fires. My heart goes out to those people. This seems to happen to them every year.

The first of September always makes me feel a little melancholy. It signifies the ending of summer, which is my favorite season. This year is even worse, because we had so much rain that we barely had any summer. I don't think we have even had a month's worth of sunny days, so I feel a little cheated.

I finished the bear I was working on, and it's waiting to get costumed. I could have done it and photographed it this afternoon, but I wanted to take advantage of the day instead. You will see the bear by tomorrow I am sure.

The next upcoming projects are going to be a Halloween and Christmas pieces. (And maybe something else as well.) This is part of why September gives me the blues. While I love summer, when we get along to this time of year I have to start thinking about the holidays. That tends to put me in the mood for them too. So I kind of go directly from summer to a holiday mood a little too soon, and I get impatient for them. But nothing really happens after the first part of September so I feel like I am in a holding pattern. I have an ad due in a few weeks and it's for the Christmas issue of the magazine, so I have to think about that as well.

Next weekend will be fun though. I am dragging R off to Littleton for A Paris Street Market. I have not been to it before, so I am excited to see what sort of treasures they will have. Then of course every year we have the Balloon Classic, and I am sure we will get up to go watch them take off if the weather is good. That's always fun and the only day of the year I ever eat funnel cake. I have never entirely decided if I like it or not.

For now though...I hope summer sticks around just a little bit longer! I am going to go play frisbee with my puppies!
