Beautiful bathroom mirrors & lights

Image via heather Scott

I don't know if you may have noticed but I am seriously obsessed with beautiful bathrooms at the moment.

I am having a little trouble making final decisions for the dream house, which isn't critical seen as though we are owner builders.

Image via the house that A-M built

Whilst this gives me the luxury of last minute choices I do still need to have a pretty good idea of what I want, so we can get quotes & have a set budget.
If I happen to find nicer alternatives that are equal to or, hopefully less expensive than the original quotes, then so be it!!!

Mirrors & lighting are on my radar this time, although the tile situation isn't completely sorted, but you can read about that one & offer your advice here

When it comes to lighting, it is best to avoid placing your light directly above the mirror.
Side lighting is a must for preventing shadows, although now that I'm 42, perhaps shadows are a little kinder, he he he!!!

This is stunning, the mirrors look very much like the pottery barn image from above don't you think?
They are definitely my 'Plan B' mirrors.

There is a similar mirror available here at Recollections called the 'Regency Swivel Mirror'
& its only $59.00. We all know which choice the dream guy is going to recommend!!

I would like to have double mirrors in the ensuite, these are definitely a personal favourite, although I have NO idea where to find them here in Australia, I'm loving the lights as well.
I think I will skip the glass shelves though, I'm just not that committed to the cleaning!!!

I will be looking at having one large mirror over the main bathroom vanity, it is going to be a 3 way bathroom so the vanity has a space all of its own, I do like the idea of the added side mirrors, great for bouncing a little extra light around the room & a fabulous tool for checking that your hair is just right!!!

Image via Tinkalicious

Of course this is my ultimate "fantasy" bathroom.... ah the glamour!!!

If you have a double vanity what is your preference, two seperate mirrors, or one gigantic one?

Have you got lighting above or beside your mirrors & what are your preferences here???

Lounging around in luxury

Image via cottage & vine

I love to see beautiful white chairs & sofas.
They look fantastic in this ink blue room don't you think?

Image via Decorpad

I am assuming this lovely chair is in a bedroom being located near that gorgeous mirrored dresser.
I can only imagine how glamorous the rest of the room must be. I expect it is very formal due to the symmetry in the lamps & the grouping of art on the wall, but I think it would be a rather romantic space as well looking at the pretty mirror over the dresser.
How does your imagination recreate the rest of this room?
I am visualising a tufted bed head & plush white bedding!

Image via Decorpad

I dream of one day owning an ottoman like this one, only not in white.
My family & white would never work well together, he he he!!!

I certainly wouldn't say I lounge in luxury but were not to shabby here either.

Oh that's right, I am not meant to be lounging at all, I am meant to be exercising.
Catch you all later.
I am off to honour my new years goal to exercise consistently.
So far, so good.
I have been working out 3 x a week & next week I plan to up the ante to 4 x a week.
I will be a yummy mummy before we know it.
YAY!!!!

How are you going with your goals, are you still on track?

Pottery Barn mirror & dream house update

In my last post, as you know, I was dreaming about this fabulous mirror from Pottery Barn & wondering had anybody seen something like this available here in Australia
or
would I have to go to the expense of having it sent out from the US, if I really really wanted it in my dream home.

Well, the wonderful land of blogging truly is a valuable resource & the very helpful & ultra stylish Melinda from
Melinda is mid way thru a major renovation of her own home & I really love her style. She has some really great ideas & always gives me lots of inspiration.
She is also a super sleuth when it comes to researching & finding just the right decorator items to get the finish she is after.
If you haven't seen her lovely blog you really should pop over & take a peek!!!

Any way Melinda found a similar mirror at
for a mere $59.
Now I am fortunate enough that Recollections have a Newcastle store which is only a 40 minute drive from my home so I will be able to go check this baby out in person. What a great excuse for a little shopping trip.

I don't know about you but I am always a little fearful of ordering something online....will it look as good in real life as it does in the image.

These are my ensuite inspiration images, the second one is my all time favourite & is from a movie scene, I just don't recall which movie!

Now the dream house plans are still slowly progressing thru the council building approval department, we had to give them some more information this week, so at least we know our plans are actually being looked at.

Unfortunately we still haven't managed to sell our old house, we have four interested buyers, the only hic cup being that they have to sell their own homes first & the market seems to be at a stand still in Lithgow...
Oh the frustration!!

Mind you there is lots that we can still do leading up to building the actual house. We still need to build a fence down one side & across the front, we have some more retaining walls to go in & we can also continue on with concreting the drive way. When I say "we" I really mean the dream guy, he he he!!

So fingers crossed for council approval on our development application, a house sale in the Blue Mountains.
In the meantime I think I need to take a little trip to Recollections to investigate some mirrors!!

Have a fantastic week everyone & thank you for all of your lovely comments & wonderful, I really do love & appreciate every one of them.

Do you love seeing new comments on your latest post?
I am a little like a small child getting a letter in the post, I can't wait to see what it says!!!

I just love these oval mirrors from

Its called the Sussex Pivot Mirror and is $261 plus shipping of course which is another $96.
Now I do believe that this is still a reasonable price for what it is, as I have found mirrors can be rather pricey here in Australia,
BUT....
If anyone has seen something similar in our lovely country I would love to know about it. After all it is better to shop locally & keep Aussies in jobs!

It is nice however to see we are able to get things shipped here from Pottery Barn, things that just aren't available here. I fall in love with so many things that I see on some of my favourite US blogs that come from this store.

How about you, do you lust after American decor?

Do you have any hot Aussie mirror tips for me?

Fabulous colour scheme

Heather Garrett Design contemporary living room

Im really loving this colour scheme at the moment. This lounge or sitting room has so many features I would love for my own home...

Heather Garrett Design contemporary living room

I dream of a fireplace & a tufted ottoman, love the round mirror & the patterned cushions.
I still have plans of attempting to make a tufted ottoman, BUT, haven't decided if it should be rectangle like the one in this image, or square(900x900mm)

I am generally a girl that paints my house a warm white right through, but I am considering adding some drama into the more formal areas with the use of a darker grey, perhaps not quite as dark as this as Im not THAT daring, unfortunately.

I also love the drum pendant light, I wonder how it looks close up?

The weather has been rather miserable here this weekend, so I have had plenty of blog reading time which has been fabulous.
Unfortunately blogger hasn't always allowed me to comment.
I just wanted to let you know I have dropped by to visit. I have been inspired by so much creativity, Ive learnt from some fabulous tutorials & chuckled at some fun stories of your weekend adventures & thoriughly enjoyed the beautiful images you have all displayed.
Hopefully these commenting issues will be ironed out soon. I am now trying to learn how to navigate the new changes to my dashboard.
Have you been converted to the new blogger or are you still enjoying the old system?

Have a tremendous week everyone!!

Thank You!

I just wanted to say a quick, but huge

Thank You

for all of the lovely birthday messages from everyone, I felt very special!!!

I was very spoilt for my birthday & will actually be having a bit of a party this weekend to celebrate, so I am looking forward to that. I will have my parents 2 sisters & my brother all in the same place at once. We don't get togethor like that to often, so it should be lots of fun !

My dream guy and the kids took me shopping for my birthday & let me choose my own gift
(apparently I'm fussy)
& seen as though I have a thing for mirrors at the moment that is exactly what I have chosen.
I found this image at Interiors Online , but I hope to take my own pic to share with you soon, along with some of the other goodies I was spoilt with.

Image via Good Life of Design

I intend on hanging mine in the formal lounge room in my dream house

I'm loving round mirrors over fireplaces, which is where I will be placing my mirror

Althought they look pretty special in the bathroom as well, from memory I think this may be one of
Sarah Richardson's beautiful bathroom designs.
Please correct me if I'm wrong!

At this point in time I will have to hang my mirror in my bedroom, but that's okay I will get to admire it every morning as soon as I open my eyes,
placed strategically so I don't have to see my scary bedhead of course!!

Have a fabulous week everyone & thank you for being such lovely blog friends, I really do appreciate you comments & well wishes

Oversized Mirrors

Lately I have developed a love for over sized mirrors as a statement piece!

As you can see, they are at home in any room of the house & look fabulous in any style.
An over sized mirror can make a room appear larger, help bounce light around a dark area in the home, or reflect a beautiful view.

Do you have one in your home & what purpose does it serve, perhaps its just a striking statement piece, mirrors are a fabulous replacement for art!!!

Twins for the kids

I have 4 children & at the moment 2 have their very own rooms, with queen size beds & two are sharing, but when we build everyone will be fortunate enough to have their own space.
As anyone with kids knows, as they get older they love to have friends for sleep overs.
How do you set up for the sleep over, do you have a roll out bed under your child's bed, a blow up mattress that tucks away in the cupboard or a set of twin beds in their room?
I thought I would live the luxurious way today & opt for the twin bed scenario, some a little more glamorous then others, after all,
Dreaming is free!!!

This one has it all, canopies, pendant lights & tufted ottomans. Don't you just love the sunburst mirror.
Oh & that wallpaper!

image via Decor Pad
More beautiful canopies. Love the hot pink with white, very fresh.

Ive used this image before, I am a HUGE fan of black & white. There are quite a few different patterns used in this bedroom but because of the monotone clolourscheme it looks more striking than busy.
Pendant lights & sunburst mirrors in combination with bed canopies appears to be a popular theme.
This bedroom screams total luxury to me.
As far as my kids are concerned this room would only be entrusted to dream child No 2. She is a clean freak who likes her room to look beautiful & in her words she is often "Editing her space", she likes to create a picture wall using the glamorous & beautiful images that you find on the pages of vogue, especially if it has a Chanel logo. She has a great eye & very expensive tastes for a 15yr old.
Mind you she has gone out & purchased Vogue from the age of 12 just to create these picture walls.

This one is very feminine & french, fit for a princess I say!

West Village Loft modern kids

A world map feature wall is definitely one of my all time favourite design ideas. I would love to be able to do something like this in my son's bedroom, which I know he would also be very happy with.

Malibu Mediterranean mediterranean bedroom
I like this sophisticated beach style, something a little different than your usual beach decor.

twin room traditional bedroom

Another fabulous boys room, a nice restful traditional look. Just what most small men need to unwind !
Studio EA

David Hertz Architects Inc. modern kids

A great way to place these beds, still leaving plenty of floor space for a great play area & all of that fantastic under bed storage makes for an easy clean up.

Does your kids bedroom match the vision you have for the space as well as fulfil the practical requirements for their age?

Have a great Friday everyone!

Another shopping temptation

Natalie at Blossoming Visions , recently did a lovely post about Debbie Dusenberry of Curious Sofa . Debbie has a wonderful website & on line store as well as a very informative blog, there are many things in her store I fell in love with, but I think these two little items will be on my MUST HAVE list for my dream kitchen

I would love to hang this gorgeous bakery sign in my kitchen, it would not just look fabulous, it would also create a very jovial talking point in my home, seen as though I am very well known by my family & friends for not being very "into" the whole cooking experience!
I imagine I would come home one day to see a sticker stuck on it so it says "OFF the premises", my family do love a good joke!!!!
Drop by The curious Sofa & take a peek, there is also an extensive range of jewelry to tempt you.

When you are done shopping at the curious sofa I hope you saved a few pennies. You really need to swing by & check out the fabulous range of home wares, furniture & jewelry Letitia over at
The White Shed, blog & online store has to tempt you with.

Now anyone that has been following my blog would know just how much I have been dreaming of owning a Venetian Mirror someday & this one is not only gorgeous but is also really nicely priced

A couple of topiary in pots would be rather charming on the mantle don't you think

& of course a set if finial book ends to dress up the book case are definitely in order.
Now I do apologize for creating so much temptation for all of you that are on a strict budget, just like me, but, its all Briohny's fault from over at French Doors and Verandahs, she reminded me in a comment to go take a peek at The White shed, what a lovely bloggy friend.

Without further ado, I shall let you all go off & be tempted by these fantastic online stores.
Don't you just love it when you can shop in such glamorous & stylish stores whilst still wearing your PJ's & a bed head!
