The process of choosing a colour scheme for a new build is rather intimidating, I mean where do you begin????
We opted to buy a 1 acre block of land as we also wanted to run my dream guy's Electrical contracting business from home, so our first priority was going to be building a large shed for his workshop.
It was this shed that narrowed our options for exterior colour choices. We wanted to match the shed to the house. So armed with the
Colorbond colour chart some decision making began. We chose paperbark for the shed walls & the roof, gutters & roller door all in woodland grey. Any windows will be white as I really want white windows & trims for my house.
We also had to take retaining walls into consideration as we have purchased a sloping block.
We love these garden lock stones from
Bathurst Concrete products in cream. They are suitable for projects up to 1.5 metres high & you can lay them in straight lines or curves which is exactly what we needed. They are also something that can be done by the home handyman, no tradesmen required so you save on labour costs.
They look great with a bit of greenery around them.
So now we have a basic colour scheme we are ready to start work, or my dream guy is any way!!!
He is not just an electrician, he is also a whizz on an excavator!!!
The concrete arrived for the retaining wall footings
Look at me go... I don't like mud, but hey I wanted to be a part of everything possible!!!
So did our 7yr old son
The lock stones arrived
My dream guy & his tiny off sider began the build.
Now that was a really long story about how we made our exterior colour choices & you will have to drop in again to see some pics of the finished retaining walls as the work is still on going .
I would love to hear your story on how you started your colour selection. If your stuck on this process I learnt some fabulous tips from Maria over at
Colour me happy, she is a designer & colour expert & her blog has been an excellent resource in helping me with my colour selections.
