MARRIAGE The Sacrament of Matrimony Marriage entails a life of service.

Marriage is a lifelong commitment that it has to grow from romantic love to a committed love. “matris” and “munus” Matrimony comes these from Latin words which mean “duty of motherhood.” Marriage in God’s Plan Marriage was made by God when He created our first parents, Adam and Eve. “That is why a man leaves his father and mother and clings to his wife, and the two of them become one body.” – Gen 2:24 God disposed man and woman for each other so that they might be “no longer two, but one flesh.” (Mt 19:6) Marriage in the order of Creation For man is created in the image and likeness of GodSince who is Himself love. God created them man their and woman, mutual love becomes the an image of absolute andwhich unfailing love with God loves man. Marriage in the Lord The matrimonial union of man and woman is indissoluble: God Himself has determined it "what therefore God has joined together, let no man put asunder." This is a great mystery, and I mean in reference to Christ and the Church." The Celebration of Marriage Marriage is a visible sign of Christ’s covenant with the Church. The partners are required to be faithful to each other, which reflects God’s fidelity with mankind and Christ’s fidelity to His Church. Matrimonial Consent If consent is lacking there is no marriage.

Marriage Bond The covenant between the spouses is integrated into God's covenant with man: "Authentic married love is caught up into divine love." Thus the marriage bond has been established by God Himself in such a way that a marriage concluded and consummated between baptized persons can never be dissolved. B. The Grace of the Sacrament of Matrimony This grace proper to the sacrament of Matrimony is intended to perfect the couple's love and to strengthen their indissoluble unity. By this grace they "help one another to attain holiness in their married life and in welcoming and educating their children." Christ is the source of this The Minister The Minister In marriage, the actual sign is made up by the contracting parties themselves. Therefore, they are the ministries of the sacrament. The priest who invokes God’s blessing during the ceremony is just the Church’s witness to the contract entered into by the parties.
