INTRODUCTION TO ROBOTICS
Robotics is a multidisciplinary field that involves the
design, construction, operation, and use of robots.
IMPORTANCE OF ROBOTICS
• Increased Productivity and Output
• Cost Reduction
• Assistance in Healthcare
• Education and Skill Development
• Precision and Accuracy
• Safety in Hazardous Environment
DEFINITION OF ROBOTICS
A robot is defined as a programmable machine that
can perform tasks autonomously, often assisting
human actions. Robotics encompasses various
branches of engineering, including mechanical
engineering, electrical engineering, computer
science, and others, to create intelligent machines
capable of interacting with the physical world.
HISTORY OF ROBOTICS
The history of robotics spans centuries, with the concept
of automated machines and artificial beings appearing
in various cultures and mythologies. However, the
development of modern robotics as a field of study and
practical application began in the 20th century.
The term "robot" was coined by Czech writer Karel
Čapek in his 1920 play "R.U.R.," standing for "Rossum's
Universal Robots."
In the 1950s, George Devol and Joseph Engelberger
developed the first industrial robot, the Unimate, which
was used for tasks like die casting and welding in
industrial settings.
TYPES OF ROBOTICS
• Industrial Robots
• Service Robots
• Humanoid Robots
• Medical Robots
• Autonomous Vehicles
• Military and Defense Robots
• Educational Robots
• Construction Robots
• Agricultural Robots
• Research and Exploration Robots
COMPONENTS OF ROBOT
• Sensors
• Actuators
• Control System
• Power Supply
• End Effector
• Mechanical Structure
• Programming Interface
• Communication Systems
• Safety Systems
ROBOTICS IN INDUSTRY
Robotics has become integral to various industries,
offering automation solutions that enhance efficiency,
productivity, and safety. Here are some ways in which
robotics is employed in industry:
• Surgical Robots
• Diagnostic Robots
• Telepresence Robots
• Robotic Prosthetics
• Microbots for Drug Delivery
ROBOTICS IN EVERY DAY LIFE
Robotics has become an integral part of everyday life,
impacting various aspects and providing numerous
benefits. Here are some ways in which robotics is
present in our daily lives:
• Home Automation
• Smartphones and Personal Assistants
• Health and Fitness
• Education
• Communication and Social Interaction
ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE AND ROBOTICS
AI in Robotics:
• Machine Learning (ML) in Robot Control: AI
algorithms, particularly machine learning, enable
robots to learn from data and adapt their behavior
based on experience. This is crucial for tasks like
navigation and decision-making.
CHALLENGES IN ROBOTICS
While robotics has seen significant advancements,
several challenges persist in the field. These
challenges span technical, ethical, and societal
dimensions. Here are some of the key challenges in
robotics:
• Job Transformation
• Increased Productivity and Economic Growth
• Impacts on Low-Skilled Jobs
• Creation of New Jobs
CASE STUDY
Background:
A global e-commerce company faced challenges in
meeting the growing demand for fast and accurate
order fulfillment in its warehouses. The company
decided to implement a comprehensive robotics
solution to optimize warehouse operations.
Objectives:
• Technological Advancements
• Automation and Efficiency
• Educational and Skill Development
• Diverse Applications
