BUILDING
A building, as defined by the National Building Code (NBC) of India, is any structure with a roof and walls
intended for use or occupancy, including those that house people, goods, or equipment. It can be a standalone
structure or part of a larger complex, designed for various purposes such as residential, commercial, industrial,
or institutional activities. The definition encompasses both the physical structure and its functional use .

TYPES OF BUILDING:
Buildings are divided as following types by National Building Code (NBC)
2016
Residential Building
Educational Building Institutional Building Assembly Building
Business Building Mercantile Building Industrial Building

Storage Building Hazardous Building

COMPONENTS OF BUILDING

Construction of building is done in at least two steps which are following:-

Sub structure
Super structure
 SUB STRUCTURE:-
Foundation is a pan of the sub structure. Sub structure is constructed according to soil
quality at that site, if soil have good bearing capacity than we use shallow foundation in
construction.
 FOUNDATION:-
A foundation is the element of any structure which connects it to the ground and
transfers loads from the structure to the ground. foundations are generally considered
either shall or deep. the low artificially built part of a structure which transmits the load
of the structure to the ground is called foundation
 SUPER STRUCTURE:-
Super structure is a part of structure that is above plinth level. Generally, columns and
walls are constructed in super structure. Following are the important parts of
superstructure- Floor, Sun Shade, Doors & Windows, Parapet, Roof, Lintel.
MATERAIL USED FOR CONSTRUCTION

 CEMENT

 AGGREGATES
Fine Aggregate
Coarse Aggregate

 REINFORCEMENT

 WATER

 R.C.C

 GRADING OF CONCRETE
EQUIPMENTS USED FOR CONSTRUCTION

BATCHING MACHINE:- Measurement of materials for making concrete is known

as batching. The machines which used for batching is known as batching machine

CONCRETE MIXER:- This is a power mechanically operated machine which is

used to mix the concrete. It consists a hollow cylindrical part with inner side wings. In
which cement, sand, aggregates and water is mix properly.
TRANSPORTATION
The process of carrying the concrete mix from the place of its mixing to final position of
deposition is termed as transportation of concrete.
There are many methods of transportation as mentioned below-
•Transport of concrete and mortar by pans
•Transport of concrete by wheel barrows
•Transport of concrete by tipping lorries
•Transport of concrete by pumps
•Transport of concrete by belt conveyors
TEMPORARY STRUCTURES

SCAFFOLDING:-
The Scaffolding is a temporary structure which is used in building operations to support
platforms for workmen, structural material and appliances required during constructions
at raised heights normally more than 1.5 meter.
SHUTTERING:-
Shuttering or form work is the term used for temporary timber, plywood, metal or other
material used to provide support to wet concrete mix till it gets strength for self support. It
provides supports to horizontal, vertical and inclined surfaces or also provides support to
cast concrete according to required shape and size.
WORK PROGRESS

I have completed eight weeks summer training at CPWD,

Lucknow during Which I worked on two Sites. First site is
Boys hostel BBAU Lucknow and Second site is CAT
Lucknow. I worked during my first week on site I and for
remaining weeks I was engaged in site 2. Site 1 is almost
70% completed by the time I visited there and Site 2 is
almost 70% completed by the time I visited both site
simultaneously.
THINGS WHICH I LEARNED THERE

 TILES WORK
 REINFORCEMENT WORK
 WINDOW GLASS WORK
 STAIR WORK
 CALCULATIONS OF WORK
NEW DESIGNABLE THINGS WHICH I SAW THERE
CONCLUSION
We studied different things at training time. These are given as following:
 Studied about different components of building.
 Different types of bonds are used in brick masonary.
 Reinforcement details of beam, column and roof are studied.
 Interaction with engineers, contractors, and labours onsite provided a real-
world understanding of teamwork and communication in construction projects.
 As per training report, I have conclude that during last 60 days, I am familiar
with the construction works under CPWD projects.
 Exposure to sustainable construction practices and materials used in the
projects underscored the significance of environmentally responsible
engineering.
