HIGH MATERIAL REJECTION
IN MALDEN M/C SHOP

By
Dr. Bikram Jit Singh
Professor
MMDU Mullana
BUSINESS CASE

• BACKGROUND: PISTON MANUFACTURING FOR

EXPORT.
• MATERIAL REJECTION IN MALDEN M/C SHOP IS
15.5% Avg.FROM JAN.07 TO JUNE-07 (9.73 TO 33.92
%) RESULTING IN ADDITIONAL COST, LOSS OF
PRODUCTION AND CAN DELAY IN DELIVERY
OBJECTIVE

• TO REDUCE THE MATERIAL REJECTION IN FM-132

ALLOY FROM MAY-31.8 & JUNE-31.5 % TO 16.0%

• TARGET DATE IS DEC.-07

• ACHIEVED IN DEC.-07 - 12.0 %

SCOPE AND BOUNDRIES

• ALL PISTONS CAST FROM FM -132 ALLOY.

• BY IMPROVING THE PROCESS STARTING FROM

MELTING AND ENDING AT CASTING.
