ELECTRICITY

OBJECTIVES

1. Infer the relationship between current

and charge.
2. Define current, voltage, and
resistance.
3. Discuss the relationship of current to
voltage and resistance in an electric
circuit.
4. Solve problems involving OHM’s Law
ELECTRICITY

- is the flow of electrical power or

charge.
- is also referred to as an energy
carrier,
which means it can be converted
to other forms of energy such as
mechanical energy or heat.

TWO WAYS ON WIRING A
Circuit
LOAD
is any arrangement of a
source of energy, connecting
wires and a load (ex. Bulb)

Closed circuit
provides a path for
electrical charges
to flow.
Series Connection Parallel Connection
TWO WAYS ON WIRING A
LOAD

1. Series circuit- one path for the

current to flow toward load.
TWO WAYS ON WIRING A LOAD

1. Parallel Circuit -In a parallel circuit, there

is more than one resistor (bulb) and they
are arranged on many paths.
-This means electricity (electrons) can
travel from one end of the cell through many
branches to the other end of the cell.

Electric
Current
- symbol is I
- is the measure of the number of
the electrical charges passing
through a close- section of a
conductor in given time.

- unit is AMPERE (A)

is named after Andrei Marie
Ampere
- French physicist who made
important contributions to the theory
of electricity and magnetism.
AMMETER- is an
instrument used to
measure electric current

Digital Ammeter Analog Ammeter

- is the electric potential
that exists to move a
charge

UNIT VOLT (V)

named after Italian physicist

ALESSANDRO VOLTA
- invented the
voltaic pile.
- the forerunner of
dry cell.
VOLTMETER
- measures voltage.
- hindrances to the
movements of
electric charge.

UNIT Ohms (Ω)

- named after the

German physicist
George Simon Ohm
George Simon Ohm

a German
mathematician best
known for Ohm's Law on
electrical resistance.

Ohm’s law
states that the voltage or
potential difference between
two points is directly
proportional to the current
or electricity passing
through the resistance, and
directly proportional to the
resistance of the circuit

V=IR I=V/R V
R=V/I I R
Ohmmeter- measures
resistance
