BANGALORE INTERNATIONAL CENTRE (BIC) IN ADDITION TO THIS, AMPLE GARDENS SERVE THE INTERNAL SPACES ON THE GROUND FLOOR AND THE
TERRACE OFFERS ADDITIONAL SPACES FOR GATHERING UNDER A LARGE SOLAR ROOF.
BIC’S VISION WAS FRAMED BY A GROUP OF LIKE-MINDED CIVIC LEADERS, EDUCATORS, PROFESSIONALS, THE DESIGN SCHEME WAS BASED ON FOUR PRINCIPALS:
GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS, ARTISTS, ACADEMICS AND THINKERS, WHO FELT THAT BENGALURU DESERVED AN 1. THE PUBLIC FUNCTION OF THE BUILDING WAS TO BE FOUND IN THE ARCHITECTURAL EXPRESSION.
INSTITUTION THAT ENCOURAGED THE INTELLECT, FACILITATED AN OPEN DIALOGUE AND STIMULATED THE 2. BY BREAKING UP THE BUILDING WITH A VOID ALONG THE SECOND FLOOR THE SCALE OF THE SURROUNDING
SENSES. FABRIC WAS SENSITIVELY ADDRESSED.
3. THE VARIOUS PROGRAM COMPONENTS WERE DISTINCT IN TERMS OF MASSING AND EASILY DISCERNIBLE IN
HISTORY TERMS OF CIRCULATION THROUGH THE BUILDING.
4. LANDSCAPE STRATEGIES WERE USED TO MITIGATE THE ODORS FROM THE NEARBY STORM-WATER DRAIN.
•THE BANGALORE INTERNATIONAL CENTRE (BIC) IS STRUCTURED AS A NON-PROFIT INSTITUTION THE LOCATION OF THE SITE BESIDE A MUNICIPAL PARK, ARMY LANDS AND ADJOINING THE CITY’S STORM-
OF MEMBERS. BIC IS REGISTERED UNDER THE KARNATAKA SOCIETIES REGISTRATION ACT, 1960. IT WATER CHANNEL (NALA) DETERMINED THE DESIGN OF THE LANDSCAPE.
WAS FOUNDED IN NOVEMBER 2005 TO ENHANCE DIALOGUE AND FOSTER IDEAS ACROSS
CULTURES, RELIGIONS, REGIONS, SOCIETIES AND ECONOMIES.
•BIC WAS INAUGURATED BY FORMER PRESIDENT OF INDIA, THE LATE ABDUL KALAM. THE
ENERGY RESOURCES INSTITUTE (TERI) HAS HOSTED BIC SINCE ITS INCEPTION TILL END 2018.
•IN 2019, BIC COMPLETED THE CONSTRUCTION OF ITS NEW BUILDING. THIS 48,000 SQ FEET,
GRIHA COMPLIANT PREMISES HAS BEEN MADE POSSIBLE WITH THE GENEROUS SUPPORT FROM
DONORS AND ~ 1100 MEMBERS (INDIVIDUAL, INSTITUTION, CORPORATE).
