hotels, and cafes since they have become a worldwide phenomenon.
As King remarks,
“now it has become a challenge to discover anything not themed: either by ethnicity,
place or retro design.”
Today, even though we choose to refrain themed spaces, we may find that we are living
in on as a consequence of their proliferation throughout the World.
This relatively new and imported architectural form, since was originated to American
culture, and its concomitants such as amusements space and the notion of themed
spaces for various purposes of representation, leisure, dwelling, dining or even
educating, deserve attention for multiple reasons. Their first striking feature is their
massive global market and employment volume.
Theme parks have an undeniable big potential of contribution to domestic tourism as
well as international tourism, which counts as a fundamental for the national economy.
Beginning from world fairs to amusement parks, the contemporary amusement space
shifted its paradigm to theme parks. The concept of theme park, as a popular
amusement form that has been dismissed as part of the mass culture or popular culture,
opens up a variety of discussions about the relationship of architecture to culture,
identity, consumption, exhibition, recreation, and fiction in particular.
AIM
The Design Thesis aims to evoke the role of an architect as an amusement park
designer for developing a creative and absorbing design which balances with perfect
harmony the psychological, physiological and technical aspect of an amusement park
facility as a whole for a world class entertainment experience.
PLANNINGOFTHEME PARKS
The planning of theme parks has much in common with the themed international
exposition. The pedestrian visitor, group or family is the costumer and spectator be
conveyed, enticed or guided through the attractions without becoming overawed,
confused, bored or lost. Some of the main issues to be considered are the theme,
presentation techniques, transportation, circulation and spatial concept. The capacity of
rides, transportation and attractions must be assessed in relation to the anticipated
attendance.
A continuity of landscaping, water element, scale, spatial sequence or transport
circulation patterns can assist to provide cohesion, but a sense of unity within the park
is essential to sustain the experience.
CIRCULATION METHODOLOGY
The predominant central walk, boulevard, piazza or „main street‟can provide a „datum‟,
giving access to specific areas. A system of clearly visible landmark features, good
signposting, coherent guide maps, can all assist to make the visitor confident. Within the
park the sequence of spaces and location of relaxation nodes is important to the
circulation pattern.
Introvert and outward looking relaxation areas , continuity of vistas, total enclosures to
capture a particular ambience, the use of neutral areas or scenic features to bridge from
one ambience to another –are all significant to the total character.
DESIGN ZONING
The Ferrari's sinuous form is directly inspired by the classic double curve side profile of
the Ferrari GT chassis. The building was conceived as a very simple 'ground hugging'
form, peeling up from the landscape in flowing lines like a red sand dune
A three pointed star form with a main core enclosed element and these three extensive
'triform' claws to cradle the outdoor attractions, the 3D nature of the building was
derived from an analysis of the sinuous double curves of countless Ferrari body shells.
At the very centerof the plan the huge roof dips and gathers itself into the ground like a
huge crystal glazed and lit funnel
FUNCTIONSTUDY
The Ferrari World Theme Park includes four theme parks, two water parks, 23 on‐site
themed resort hotels including a campground, two spas and physical fitness centers,
five golf courses, and other recreational venues and entertainment.

ENTRANCE-The building entrance to the north is linked directly to the shopping
complex via the Ferrari Gateway Bridge, leading into the Welcome Pavilion; an area
dotted with authentic cafés and stylish restaurants.

CIRCULATION-Entire circulation of the public is via the bridge, located halfway between
Ferrari World Abu Dhabi and the YasRetail Mall. Guest amenities on the Plaza and
Mezzanine levels are accessed via walkways and ramps. There is one passenger lift
at the undercroft level parking area.
STUDY OF SPACES
ZONING -The roof form is based on a 120 degree tri-form arm arrangement that
extends over 700meter in diameter, surrounding the 3 levels of 176,000 sqm of main
accommodation within. The east and west tri-form arms house the world's fastest
Formula 1 themed roller coaster as well as the world's first duellingroller coasters, and
the southern tri-form arm acts as a flexible performance space capable of holding more
than 15,000 people. On entering the building at the upper plaza level from the north,
the roof extends up and over the head and disappears into the distance at 320 meters
in diameter
FUNNEL FORM -If one continue through the space, extending out in front of a vast
glazed crystal like funnel roof at 100 meters in diameter, pulling down to just 17 meters
diameter at its base, creating an intensity of space inside and providing the perfect
location for the thrilling G-Force shot ride within its center.
EXIT-There are five main exit points leading directly to the outside: Main Entrance / Exit
to the north, Two Coaster Bridges in the east & west, and Two link bridges/ fire exits
within the east and west shield façades.
