BASIC MEDICAL AND LIFE SAVING TECHNIQUES
• Think about the wide range of accidents children have on a regular basis in the comfort of their own home – cuts,
choking, falls, asthma attacks – and think how you would feel if it were your child, your parent or even your pet.
Consider how confident you would feel faced with the most common medical emergencies occurring at home,
school or in the workplace?

• Most of us just keep our fingers crossed accidents won’t happen to us and ours. Or that if the worst happens, there
will be a doctor or other medically trained person on hand to take charge and help.
• There are many situations in which a young person may need to provide first aid to a friend, stranger, or even
themselves. Being equipped with first aid skills could be the difference between life and death. In an emergency
medical situation, knowledge is power.

• Learning first aid and becoming alert to potential hazards and medical issues increases our health awareness and
allows us to take better care of ourselves, our friends and families.

• None of us know what the future has in store for us or for our loved ones. Sudden illness such as heart attack,
stroke, severe bleeding and breathing difficulties require immediate attention.

• Learning First aid also equips you to deal with bleeding, burns, breathlessness, bites, shocks stings, splints and
fainting so whatever medical situation life throws at you, you can respond effectively.
WHAT IS FIRST AID AND CPR?

First aid is the immediate care given to a person

who has been injured or who has become ill prior
to the arrival of qualified medical assistance.
Cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is a
lifesaving technique useful in many emergencies,
including heart attack or near drowning, in which
someone’s breathing or heartbeat has stopped
ADVANTAGES OF LEARNING BASIC
FIRST-AID ARE:-
• First aid saves lives- Deaths can be preventable if first-aid is given before the emergency services arrive.

• First aid reduces recovery time- First aid can have a huge impact on someone’s chances of recovery, and can mean the
difference between them having a short term or more permanent disability.

• Crucial communication for the emergency services- Staying with the person until the emergency services arrive to take
over means you can convey vital information about how the he/she sustained the injury or information about their
condition. This information is vital to the emergency services for the effective treatment of the patient and can also aid
the patient’s treatment and recovery.

• First aid prevents medical situations deteriorating- Knowing the basics of first aid can prevent a bad situation from getting
worse. Consider a person who is bleeding from a deep cut. Without intervention, he could suffer severe blood loss. By
applying pressure using simple first aid techniques, you can prevent a medical emergency from rapidly deteriorating and
stabilise the patient until further medical help arrives.

• First aid makes you feel empowered- Learning first aid will give you the confidence to act appropriately when an accident
occurs. It is vitally important to deal with any life-saving injuries before reaching for the phone to call for an ambulance. It
is also very useful to know when and if to move someone following an accident and when they should be kept still.
BASIC TECHNIQUES WE CAN LEARN FOR THE
FOLLOWING MISHAPS:-

• CONTROLLING BLEEDING FROM DEEP WOUNDS/CUTS

• CHOKING
• INSECT/WASP BITES
• BURNS
• SUNSTROKE
• BREATHLESS-NESS
• DROWNING
• BASIC CPR FOR UNRESPOSIVENESS
3 Reasons Why Basic First Aid Knowledge Is Essential
Performing
the Three Cs
1. Check the
surroundings
Evaluate the
surroundings This refers
to the D (Danger) in
DRABC (Danger,
Response, Airways,
Breathing and
Circulation).
Performing
the Three Cs
2. Call for help
Call out for help 3 times
before you begin
assisting the casualty. If
someone is with you or
approaches, instruct
them to call the
authorities and be
prepared to relay
information to them so
they can update the
responders

the Three Cs
3. Care for the person
Caring for someone who
has just gone through
serious trauma includes
both physical treatment
and emotional support.
Remember to stay calm
and try to be reassuring;
let the person know that
help is on its way and that
everything will be alright.
WHO CAN TEACH?

We can organize for each class a Qualified first aid instructor to explain
anddemonstrate life saving skills …
The course involve both theory and practical content. It’s important to
have anunderstanding of why we are performing it, the individual
cases, as well as thepractical skill.
They can teach our students to practice the skills, and the course
duration is approx. 4-6 hours(can be altered as per need) .
Good Samaritan laws

Good Samaritan laws protect bystanders who

attempt to save someone’s life using CPR or an AED.
To qualify for protection under a Good Samaritan law,
the provider must:
– Ask permission (if the victim cannot reply, consent
is implied)
– Act within the scope of their training
– Provide help voluntarily
Good Samaritan laws protect bystanders who step
forward in an emergency situation to help, with no
