The Role of Civil Society in Promoting Islamic Identity: A
Case Study of Ankara Centre for Though and Research

Ankara Hacı Bayram Veli University, Department of Political and Social Sciences The Purpose of the Study • The purpose of the study is to point out how Civil Society organizations greatly contribute to the promotion of Islamic identity.
• To justify the fact that in spite of these roles played
by the CSOs there are still much to be done.
• To suggest some more practical approaches to be
use by CSOs in promoting Islamic Identity. Material and Methods • This research placed more emphasis on both participant observation and semi- structured interviews.
• The study is founded on the assumption that
whether CSOs have role to play in the promotion of Islamic Identity. Main Outputs • It is vital to state that Civil Society Organizations CSOs otherwise known as the “third sector” have become a gargantuan tool for promoting not only Islamic identity but also transparency, societal peace, progress, development and stability.
• ADAM-ACTOR a CSOs based in Ankara-Turkey has
been promoting Islamic Identity among younger generations in the following areas: What Constitutes Muslim’s Identity?
• Basically, the Qur’an emphasizes three dimensions that
are the focal point of Muslim’s identities: • a. Fundamentals of the faith, including tawhid - the oneness of Allah, prophethood, the scriptures, and hereafter. • b. Fundamentals of the jurisprudence which involves commands and interdictions. • c. Individual and collective morality and character traits, such as trust, honesty, justice, compassion, and worthiness (Ramdane & Merah, 2017: 145). • Promoting Islamic Identity Through Islamic Education -Seminar and congresses: "Integrity of Knowledge” ……my studying at this organization made me to understand that Islamic Identity is beyond what I thought before …it has to do with morality, ethics, family relation, daily life and the rest of it…….

Conclusion and Recommendation At the Ankara Centre for Thought and Research younger generations of all genders especially under its Specialization Programs (İhtisas Program) are taught the numerous aspects of Islamic education. On this note the students gained a wide range of knowledge of Islam and how a Muslims should live their live in all ramifications that includes marriage, naming, worship, business, work and other daily activities, these have promoted and is still promoting Muslim’s identity. • Undoubtedly Ankara Centre for Thought and Research (ADAM-ACTOR) has been doing a number of programs which are directly or indirectly promoting Islamic consciousness among its participants especially younger generations.
• Asides these number of programs which we highlighted,
the association can also includes some other programs that may include visit to famous Islamic places within and outside Turkey, such as Masjid Aqsa in Palestine, and other sacred places in Saudi Arabia and Pakistan. Thank You For Listening
