    SCULPTURE
    • Sculpture is an art of form that requires the artist’s
    creative use of balance, skill in the use of materials,
    and physical strength. For many centuries, the
    common subject matter was the human figure. The
    materials limited to marble, metal, and wood.

    • Sculpture, an artistic form in which hard or plastic


    materials are work into three-dimensional art
    objects. The design maybe embodied in freestanding
    objects, in reliefs on surfaces, or in environments
    ranging from tableaux to contexts that envelop the
    spectator.
    The Four Basic Sculpture
    Techniques
    Modeling
    • Modeled sculpture are
    created when a soft or
    malleable material such
    as clay is built using an
    armature (mature
    brace) and then shaped
    to create a form
    Carving
    • It involves cutting or
    chipping away a shape
    from a block of stone,
    wood , or other hard
    material.
    Casting
    • Casting it in bronze or
    metal accurately
    reproduces the form from
    an original or wax model.
    It is durable, can be
    transported without
    breaking and can also be
    duplicated
    Assembling
    • Assembling is an additive
    process using adhesive,
    welding, and other
    chemicals for adhesion.
    Style and Movements in
    Sculpture
    Technology, modern tools, and materials generate new
    artistic and sculptural effects that have developed into
    different styles and movements.
    Monolithic Sculpture
    • It is from a slab of stone and is
    limited by the material’s shape and
    size.

    • The sculptor can only make a form


    that is allowed by the material’s
    shape and cannot exceed its size.

    • Neither can the sculptor produce


    complex open forms and shapes
    where arms and legs are stretched.
    Constructivism
    • It is popular among
    contemporary artists.

    • main traits: abstraction,


    transparency, interpenetration
    of sculptural form, overlapping
    of planes, and the employment
    of lines in tension to describe
    direction and movement.
    Sculptural Assemble

    Several forms of founds


    objects, including metal (wire,
    pipe, sheet, rod, spring, tube,
    bar, and plate) are put
    together through a single
    method of attachment;
    welding; and a single color and
    surface texture.
    Kinetic Sculpture

    • It is a sculpture in
    mechanical motion, when
    they are suspended in the
    air, they can produce
    musical sound as the
    elements move with the
    wind and touch each other.

    • Strong wind can also propel


    movement in a sculpture.
    Niche

    The niche encloses forms


    physically and governs the
    angle of vision from which
    the sculpture can be seen.
    Box
    • It is closed and can become a package, a portable container for
    something worth keeping.

    • It is distinguished by its careful craftsmanship and connection to


    something.
    Grotto
    • It is not associated with the wall and is more like a room. It relate
    instead to the vault or convoluted inner spaces of natural caverns.
    There are three elements that constitute appreciation of
    contemporary art: description, analysis, and interpretation.
