INTRODUCTION
What is a control zone?
is a volume of controlled airspace, which extends from the surface
to a specified upper limit.
Why do we need a control zone?
to protect air traffic operating to and from that airport.
What is a control area?
a volume of controlled airspace that exists in the vicinity of an
airport.

THE NAIROBI CONTROL ZONE
It has a radius of 15 nm.
It has three aerodromes.
Its centered at Sameer business park (01 19'S
36 52E).
Divided into three areas: Area I, II, & III.
It has two access lanes: NEAL and SEAL.
NORTH EAST ACCESS LANE
It begins at silos marker.
It ends at ndula marker which is beyond
the Nairobi control zone.
Aircraft exit the control zone on 6200 ft
and join on 6500 ft.
Its located within area III.
SOUTH EAST ACCESS LANE
It begins at visual marker.
It ends at twin bridges.
Aircraft exit the control zone on
6200 ft and join on 6500 ft.
Its located within area III.
AREA I
 Extends from ground to 9,000ft.
 Its control authority is Wilson tower 118.1mhz.
 It contains two prohibited sections and one danger area
that extends past the zone.
 It is enclosed by a line drawn from 'EA' NDB bearing
056M to a line drawn bearing 252M from Wilson.
 Its categorized as a class D airspace (where both VFR &
IFR flights are allowed and VFR flights are not
controlled).
AREA II
 Extends from ground to 6,500ft.
 Its control authority is Wilson Tower 118.1mhz.
 It contains a VOR station, namely GV 115.9mhz.
 It is enclosed by a line drawn from Wilson bearing 252M to a
line bearing 196M from Wilson.
 Its categorized as a class D airspace (where both VFR & IFR
flights are allowed and VFR flights are not controlled).
 Above 6,500ft to 9,000ft , this area becomes part of Area III.
AREA III
 Extends from ground to 9,000 ft.
 Its control authority is Nairobi Approach 119.7mhz.
 Itcontains a VOR station, namely TV 115.5mhz and also
the SEAL.
 Itis enclosed by a line drawn from Wilson bearing 196M
to a line 'EA' NDB bearing 056M.
 Itis categorized as a class C airspace (only IFR and
controlled VFR flights allowed).
