Wind Power Plant

By : Clarissa, Jessica, phoebe, Velesya

What i s w i n d p o w e r p l a n t ?
Wind power plants, also known as wind farms,
use the power of the wind to generate
electricity. They have big turbines with large
blades that spin when the wind blows. The
spinning motion of the blades generates energy,
which is then converted into electricity. This
electricity can be used to power homes,
buildings, or even entire cities.
What are the primary components of a
typical wind power plant?
Turbine
The turbine is the part that captures the wind’s energy and
converts it to mechanical energy. It consists of blades that
spins when the wind blows.

Generator
The generator is connected to the turbine
and converts the mechanical energy into
electricity

Tower
The tower supports the turbine and raises it
high in the air, ensuring it can capture the
strongest winds.
How does it work?
The basic working principle of a wind turbine is
to convert mechanical energy from the wind into
rotational energy in the wheel, then the rotation
of the wheel is used to rotate the generator,
which will ultimately produce electricity. This
tool functions to change low rotation on the
wheel to high rotation.
How does the wind speed impact the electricity
generation of a wind power plant?

When wind blows faster, the turbine blades spin faster,

which generates more electricity. Similarly, when wind
speed decreases, the turbine blades spin slower and
generate less electricity. So, higher wind speeds result in
more electricity production, while lower wind speeds
result in less electricity production.
What are some of the key factors that determine the economic
feasibility of establishing a wind power plant?

Cost of maintaining and Price at which electricity

operating it can be sold
The cost of maintaining and operating the plant The price at which the electricity can
involves expenses for things like regular be sold is important because it
maintenance and repairs. determines the revenue that the wind
power plant can generate.

The amount of electricity it can

generate
The amount of electricity a wind power plant can
generate depends on factors like the size and
efficiency of the turbines and the average wind speed
in the area.
The advantage and disadvantages

ADVANTAGES DISADVANTAG
⚬ Clean and renewable energy source. ES
⚬ Wind turbines can be dangerous to
⚬ Environmentally friendly some wildlife.
⚬ Cost-effective ⚬ Wind turbines can be noisy
⚬ Wind power is limited by location
which country uses it?

• Denmark
• Germany
• The United States
• China
• Spain
Does it affect the/trigger
global warming? environment
Wind power plants do not directly contribute to global warming. In fact, they
are considered clean energy sources, reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
However, construction can cause environmental impacts like noise pollution,
wildlife disturbance, and bird and bat collisions, which are generally minimal
compared to other energy sources.
Statistic of wind power plant usage
The global wind power capacity had been rapidly
increasing, with a substantial rise in the number of
installed wind power plants worldwide. In 2021, the
global installed wind capacity reached over 743
gigawatts (GW). Wind energy sources accounted for
nearly 7.33 percent of electricity generation worldwide
in 2022, up from a 6.6 percent share a year earlier. This
was over double the share compared to 2015 values, the
year Paris Agreement was adopted.
