And adore His

Holy Name.

you for our life and for the purposeful existence
of every creature in the entire cosmos.
Lord Jesus, Master Teacher of humanity, You
said, knock and it will be opened to you.
Seek and you shall find. Ask and it will be given.
As we begin with our lessons today, Lord, please
direct our studies, ensure our perseverance and set
you seal upon its completion
You who are the fount of wisdom,
grant us a kind understanding, a
retentive memory, style and ease in
learning, and fluency and depth in
communication. May your Holy Spirit
inspire us live a way of life that is
pleasing to you. We ask this through
Christ our Lord. Amen.
Let us put ourselves in the Holy presence of the Lord.

And adore His

Holy Name.
Lord, make me an instrument of your
peace:
where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy.
O divine Master, grant that I may not so
much seek
to be consoled as to console,
to be understood as to understand,
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive,
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal
life. Through Christ our Lord. Amen

G ONE’S HUMAN
NATURE
Lesson 1:
INTELLECT, FREE WILL & CONSCIENCE
This unit aims to help you to become responsible
adolescent who demonstrates dependable
behavior and clear aspirations and who is
accounted for the consequences of his/her
decisions and actions.

The activities will guide you to become a

responsible adolescent and grow in goodness
with yourself, others and God.
What makes you think that you
(we, human person) are the most
special creation of God?
HUMAN BEINGS
In biology, human being or human
refers to any member of the
mammalian species. Homo sapiens,
a human having qualities that are
distinct from other species.
HUMAN BEINGS
The most special and important
creation of God.

As the church teaches, we are not

just “something” but someone who
deserve love and respect.
HUMAN BEINGS
Genesis 1:27
God created man in His image
and likeness, with intellect, free
will and conscience.
HUMAN BEINGS
As humans, we have both physical
and spiritual bodies which we must
to see to it they grow together.

If the spirit is not present in our

body, then we are already dead.
HUMAN BEINGS
The spirit was a gift of God to us, to
protect us, to live with us and for us to
live in a good way.

How are we going to take care of our

physical and spiritual body using our
intellect, free-will and conscience?
2 QUALITIES OF THE HUMAN BEING
1. PHYSICAL / MATERIAL
WELL-BEING
- refers to material things which
satisfies our material needs which
is our physical body.
2 QUALITIES OF THE HUMAN BEING
1. SPIRITUAL WELL-BEING
- refers to spiritual things and
actions that could satisfy our
spiritual needs which is our soul.
This includes the mind, emotions,
and conscience
Life experience
Each of us possesses these qualities
of human being. Our body is
composed of both physical/material
and spiritual well-being (body). As
human, how are we going to satisfy
these two qualities that we have.

ACTIVITIES FOR MY ACTIVITIES FOR MY SPIRITUAL NEEDS
MATERIAL NEEDS
Example: Example:
I will eat healthy I will attend my zoom class and do my
foods module activities. After I have completed my
activities on such subject, I can play to
refresh my mind.
LET’S PONDER
Through this Spiritual well-being
that humans have, unlike animals
and other creatures who only have
the physical/material being.
These qualities lead us to discover
the importance and purpose of
intellect, free-will and conscience.
LET’S PONDER
Doing/acting right is something
that is due to a person.

Humans have rights.

LET’S PONDER
Do you agree to what God wants us
to do or do you agree to what we
just want to do?

Do our actions/decisions help us and

others or it only helps us for our
own benefit?
EXPLORING the WORD
What does the Bible say about our
intellect, free-will and conscience?

Genesis 2:15 – 17
EXPLORING the WORD
EXPLORING the WORD
One special gift God gave Adam
and Eve at their creation was
original holiness and justice.
This includes: supernatural gifts of
sanctifying grace, the seven Gifts of
the Holy Spirit, and the infused
virtues.
EXPLORING the WORD
In his plan, God established His original
covenant with Adam and Eve.
If they would obey His command to
increase and multiply, to fill the earth and
subdue it, and especially his command
forbidding them to eat of the tree of
knowledge of good and evil, they would
never die.
Free will
In humans, the power or capacity
to choose to make a choice or a
decision – whether that choice /
decision is good and bad.

It is to obey or disobey God.

Free will
If God had not placed the tree of
knowledge of good and evil and
not stipulated His rule concerning
that particular tree, then Adam and
Eve would not have a choice to
exercise their God-given free will.
How do we know that free will exist?
God can teach, inspire, persuade,
invite, rebuke and even warn
people about their choices – but He
does not violate man’s free will.
How do we know that free will exist?
Man is capable of willfully making
wrong choices even though he
knows that the choice he is making
is bad or wrong.
How do we know that free will exist?
Free will exists because mankind is
always making a choice between
alternatives, regardless of whether
those choices are good or bad.
THE EFFECTS OF FREE WILL
Every choice we make in life can
have good or bad consequences.

We may choose hatred instead of

love; or bitterness instead of
forgiveness; or violence of peace; or
lies instead of telling the truth.
THE EFFECTS OF FREE WILL
So even though God gives us free will, the
choices we make can bear either good or bad
results, depending upon the choice.
Even though God gives man free will to
choose, God also advises man about the
benefits of making good choices.

CHOOSING BETWEEN LIFE AND DEATH
The most important choice that
every person has been given since
the fall of man (Adam) in the
garden of Eden is that of choosing
between life and death.
How do we choose death?

To choose death is to reject

Jesus Christ and to reject the
work of redemption which
He completed for mankind
on the Cross.
How do we choose death?
In John 3:18-19

Whoever believes in Him is not condemned,

but whoever does not believe is condemned
already, because he has not believed in the
name of the only Son of God. 19 And this is the
judgment: the light has come into the world,
and people loved the darkness rather than the
light because their deeds were evil.
How do we choose death?
John 3:18-19
Whoever believes in Him is not condemned,
but whoever does not believe is condemned
already, because he has not believed in the
name of the only Son of God. 19 And this is the
judgment: the light has come into the world,
and people loved the darkness rather than the
light because their deeds were evil.
How do we choose LIFE?

We choose life by
accepting Jesus Christ
as our Lord and
Saviour.
How do we choose LIFE?
1 John 5:12
Whoever has the Son has
life; whoever does not
have the Son of God does
not have life.
What is both a gift from God and a free choice?

Choose life.
God created and gave to
mankind the gift of free will
— the gift of choice.
How did Adam and Eve responded to God’s call using their intellect, free
will and conscience?
In the story of creation, Adam and Eve responded to
God’s call using their intellect by understanding what
God has instructed them.
They have used their Free-Will by choosing what they
want to choose, like for example when the serpent
temped Eve, she has the free-will to choose to give-in
in the temptation but she preferred/chose to eat the
forbidden fruit by using her free-will. Then she
approached Adam and gave the fruit for him to eat.
How did Adam and Eve responded to God’s call using their intellect, free
will and conscience?
Adam has the free will not to eat it but he chooses
to take it. He also has the intellect to understand
that when he eats the fruit, he will disobey God so
also with Eve but they have the free-will to
choose their action.
When they felt sorry for themselves and went
hiding because they know they disobeyed God, to
hide means "our good conscience is telling us
there is something wrong”.
But let us remember that..
After God allowed Adam and Eve to face the
consequences of their actions, He promised
them blessing of sending a Messiah in the
future.
These beautiful stories in the Old Testament
show that God sees the heart of the person
because the heart is the place where Our
conscience speaks what God wants for us.
