CAMBODIAN MUSIC
• Cambodian music is roughly similar to
that of Java, Indonesia. These feature
choruses with large orchestras based on
struck keys and gongs.
• Absorbed and adopted Indian, Chinese,
European and other cultures to suit to
their own traditions and tastes.
CAMBODIAN MUSIC
• PINPEAT- Cambodian musical ensemble
or an orchestra that usually accompanies
ceremonial music of the royal courts, and
temples. Usually consists of 9 or 10
instruments.
• MUSIC- always part of their court
dances, masked plays, shadow plays and
religious ceremonies.

INDONESIAN MUSIC
• GAMELAN- or gamelan orchestra is the most
popular form of music. Has variety of
instruments.
Famous are
Balinese and
Javanese
gamelan.
Metallophones,
xylophones,
kendang, gongs,
bamboo flutes,
bowed and plucked
strings.
Gamelan orchestras are used to accompany
dances, songs, and Wayang Kulit.
Are believed to possess supernatural powers.
Consider their instruments sacred
Musicians bow before playing the
instruments.
- Pesindhen- female soloist singer who
sings with a gamelan
-Gerong- unison male chorus that sings
with the gamelan.

• Myanmar was known as Burma until 1989. the
country’s name was officially changed by the
military that took over in 1988.

• Myanmar music melodious and has
similarities with many other musical
traditions in the region, including
Chinese and Thai music
• Musical instruments include the brass se
(which is like a triangle), hne (a kind of
oboe) and bamboo wa, as well as the
well-known saung gauk, a boat-shaped
harp.

different gongs and drums as well as other
instruments depending on the nature of
performance.

• 1.AGUNG AND KULINTANG- gong based


musical ensemble commonly used in
funerals and wedding in East Malaysia.
2. KERTOK
• Kertok- musical ensemble that consists of
Xylophones played swiftly and
rhythmically.
3. DIKIR BARAT
• Performed by singing in groups and often
in a competitive manner usually with
percussion instrumental accompaniment
or without instruments at all.
4. SILAT MELAYU
• Form of martial arts that is similar to t’ai
chi. Mixture of martial arts, dance, and
music accompanied by gongs, drums,
and Indian oboes.

• 1. Piphat- mid-sized orchestra that is
performed in either outdoor style hard
mallets or indoor with padded mallets.
• -traditionally associated with funerals
and cremation ceremonies.
2. Khrueang Sai- Combines percussion and wind
instruments of the Piphat with an expanded
string section.

in the courts of Central Thailand and
Cambodia.
