Space mouse-a professional 3-d
controller.
Manipulate objects in a 3-d environment.
Serves as an intuitive man-machine
interface.
permits the simultaneous control of all six
degrees of freedom – translation,rotation
or a combination
BEFORE…
 Predecessor of space mouse is DLR(Deutsches
Zenturum far Luft-und Raumfahrt) controller ball.
 2 dimensional mouse which detects motion in X-
Y plane.
 Main goal-translate motion of our hands into
signals that a computer can use.
 Almost all mice do translation using 5
components.
1. A ball inside the mouse
touches the desktop and rolls
when the mouse moves.
2.The rollers that touch the ball
and detect X and Y motion
3.When roller rolls, its shaft
and disk spin.
4.There is an infrared LED (clear) on
one side of the disk and an infrared
sensor (red) on the other
5.a small processor that reads the pulses coming from the infrared
sensors and turns them into bytes sent to the computer .
