It’s a Small World

Sara Miller 07/04/2021 Edu 280 It’s a Small World: Social Studies Multicultural Goal 2: Develop an educational environment that promotes respect for differences. Course Objectives 3: Identify key concepts, instructional practices and interpersonal interactions for implementing the dimensions of multicultural education in today’s contemporary and diverse classroom and global society. Lesson Objective It’s a Small World is a social studies lesson that teaches the students about geography. It helps the students identify where landmarks are located and different types of people that live in different areas around the world. This lesson helps add diverse into the classroom by teaching the students about it. Paint Color Pencils/Crayons Printed Lyrics of the Song “It’s a Small World” Printed Earth Lesson Map of the Earth Materials Paper and Pencils Homework From the Night Before Start Off Discussion Questions: “What do you think this song means?”, “What does the world landmark mean?”, “Have you been to any of these landmarks? What about your parents?” Do First/Welcome Activity: Help the students point out where there ancestry is from (this information they will get from there parents for homework the day before) Mini-Lesson: Listen to song at least 3 times “It’s a Small World” and have them follow along with the lyrics. After we listen to the song we will have a class discussion about what the song means and how it relates to them. Instructions Guided Practice: Point out different landmarks on different parts of the earth and talk about the different types of cultures that are found there. Independent Practice: Have the students draw landmarks on a printed out earth. This will allow them to see what they learn and use their creativity to make a colorful earth. This lesson taught the students where landmarks were and about different types of culture that are out there. What specific multicultural knowledge, skills were achieved? This lesson helped the students learn different types of cultures. This helps them realize that differences are good. How actively engaged are the students in the teaching-learning Reflection process? The students are able to express what there are feeling and interacted in the lesson . List the strengths and weaknesses of the lesson plan Strengths of this lesson is that it give the students plenty of time to discuss and apply what they have learned. The weaknesses of this lesson plan is that the first part of the lesson may not work if there parents don’t help out the night before.
