Conceptual framework
Statement of the problem
Significance of the study
Scope and delimitations and
Definition of terms.
BACKGROUND OF THE 1.1
STUDY
Background of the Study
Cars are one of the mankind's most revolutionary
creations. One of the promising ways for automotive
technology might be improve upon lies in the energy
wastage caused by rotating wheels.
Background of the Study
Motorized tricycles known as a motorcycle and side car
are common means of public or private transportation in
the Philippines. With numerous availabilities of tricycles in
our country, we saw that one of the unnoticeable
alternative sources of energy is from wastage caused by
rotating wheels of a tricycle.
Background of the Study
This project study highlights the development of
generating wasted energy through a rotating wheel. This
paper presents how the project researchers comes up with
the present design based on the data gathered from the
collection of the recent researches and studies.
THEORETICAL 1.2
FRAMEWORK
Theoretical Framework
Energy is everywhere in the environment surrounding us
and is available in many forms. Capturing this energy and
converting it to electrical energy has been the subject of
many research investigations.

They used a gymnasium bicycle to convert mechanical

energy to electrical energy using alternator.
Theoretical Framework
Humans are able to generate approximately 150W of
power while riding bicycle. However, this power goes
waste without any use. If we can make use of this energy,
we would be able to power many electronic devices.

A dynamo or an alternator can be used for harvesting the

energy generated by a cycle rider while riding.
Theoretical Framework
From these studies, the researchers have come up with an
idea on developing a sidecar with an alternator as a power
harvester. It is also equipped with USB port for charging
inside the sidecar, and a secured and safe wiring for the
battery.
CONCEPTUAL 1.3
FRAMEWORK
• Gathering of informaton from related studies and literature
• Analysis of the design, and projects characteristics.
INPUT

• Conceptualization of the project

• Project calculations and Design implementation
• Fabrication of the machine parts
PROCESS • Evaluation of the machine's performance

• Functional and Working Tricycle Side Wheel Energy Harvester

OUTPUT

Conceptual Framework
STATEMENT OF THE 1.4
PROBLEM
Statement of the
The purpose of this study is to design a tricycle that is
Problem
equipped with a turbine to act as a source of electricity.
This study aims to provide answers for the following
questions:
1. How can we produce electricity by gathering wasted
energy to a spinning wheel?
2. What type of motor is use to gather energy from a
rotating wheel?
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE 1.5
STUDY
Significance of the Study

This research will be able to help passengers to

charge their gadgets while traveling, the sidecar can
also be equipped with radio or DVD drivers for the
passenger’s entertainment while travelling.

For them to save their money and also to save

energy used to produce diesel or gasoline this study
SCOPE AND 1.6
DELIMITATION
Scope and Delimitation

This study will focus on developing an efficient

renewable motorcycle sidecar mounted energy
source through alternator attached to the rotating
wheels of a sidecar. The harvested energy can be
then used by the passengers.
DEFINITION OF TERMS 1.7
Definition of Terms

Motorized tricycle - are a form of auto rickshaw

and are common means of public transportation in
the Philippines. These public utility vehicles either
ply a set of routes or for hire like taxis. The tricycle
is the most popular means of transport in small
towns and cities, especially in rural areas.
Definition of Terms
Alternator - is an alternating current electrical
generator that transforms mechanical energy to
electrical energy.

USB port - in this study this means, a socket

intended for gadgets cables and used for charging
devices.
Definition of Terms
DVD driver - An optical disc drive that reads and
writes all common CD and DVD formats.

Automotive Technologies - refers to the study of

self-propelled vehicles or machines.

METHODOLOGY
Outline:
Research Design
Sources of Data
Research Instrument
Tools and Data Analysis
Chronogram of Activities
RESEARCH DESIGN 2.1
Research Design

In this study the researchers utilize the descriptive

research design. The primary purpose of a
descriptive design is for the researchers to describe
the situation or case under study. It's a data
collection, interpretation, and presentation
procedure based on theory.
SOURCES OF DATA 2.2
Sources of Data

The researchers utilize existing literatures and

studies to create a model, specially the positioning
of alternator and what type of belt to use. The
researchers also find data’s and models using
website and videos available in the internet.
RESEARCH 2.3
INSTRUMENT
Research Instrument

The researchers consult existing studies and

literature, to come up with a design for the sidecar
equipped with a rotor.
TOOLS AND DATA 2.4
ANALYSIS
Tools and Data Analysis

To analyze the data for the alternator the

researchers used existing formulas and data’s
shown in graphs in other researches and also the
rating of alternator to be used. The size of the belt
is one factor for the performance of the alternator,
that’s why the researchers also took the opportunity
to find if what belt to use.
