    ROCK CYCLE
     The mineral grains that form the solid phase of soil are formed by
    weathering of rocks.
     On the basis of origin, rocks can be classified into three types which are -
    1-Igneous rock
    2-Metamorphic rock
    3-Sedimentary rock
    IGNEOUS ROCK

    These kind of rocks are formed by solidification of magma


    ejected from deep beneath the earth.
    SEDIMENTARY ROCK

    The deposits of gravel, sand, silt and clay formed by


    weathering may become compacted by overburdened
    pressure and cemented by different agents.
    METAMORPHIC ROCKS

     Metamorphism is the process of changing the texture and


    composition of rocks without melting by heat and pressure.
     During metamorphism, new minerals are formed and
    mineral grains are sheared to give a foliated texture of
    metamorphic rocks.
    WEATHERING PROCESS

     Weathering is the process of breaking down of rocks by


    mechanical and chemical process into smaller pieces.
    MECHANICAL
    WEATHERING
     Mechanical weathering may be caused by sudden expansion
    and contraction of rocks from continous loss and gain of
    heat which results in disintegration of rocks.
    CHEMICAL WEATHERING

     In chemical weathering original rock minerals are


    transformed into new minerals by chemical reaction.
