1. discuss the different organizations


in Asia;
2. evaluate the benefits and issues
brought by the different organizations
in Asia; and
3. Construct a strategy on how to
maintain strong relationship in the
different areas.

REGIONALISM VS. GLOBALISM

Regionalism
-is not only a geographical concept but a dynamic
process encompassing a concentration of economic,
political and socio-cultural linkages.
-alternative to globalism.

Globalism
-a tendency towards a global social system,
programmatic globalization, the vision of borderless
world, the end of geography.
SOUTHEAST
ASIA
Objectives
1.Accelerate the economic growth, social progress
and cultural development in the region through joint
endeavors in the spirit of equality and partnership in
order to strengthen the foundation for a prosperous
and peaceful community of Southeast Asian Nations;

2.To promote regional peace and stability through


abiding respect for justice and the rule of law in the
relationship among countries of the region and
adherence to the principles of the United Nations
Charter;

3.To promote active collaboration and mutual


assistance on matters of common interest in the
economic, social, cultural, technical, scientific and
administrative fields;
4. To provide assistance to each other in the form of
training and research facilities in the educational,
professional, technical and administrative spheres;

5. To collaborate more effectively for the greater


utilization of their agriculture and industries, the
expansion of their trade, including the study of the
problems of international commodity trade, the
improvement of their transportation and
communications facilities and the raising of the living
standards of their peoples;

6.To promote Southeast Asian studies; and

7. To maintain close and beneficial cooperation with


existing international and regional organizations with
similar aims and purposes, and explore all avenues
for even closer cooperation among themselves.
ASEAN REGIONAL FORUM
(ARF)
Established in 1994, the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) is an
important platform for security dialogue in the Indo-Pacific. It
provides a setting in which members can discuss current
security issues and develop cooperative measures to enhance
peace and security in the region.
The ARF is characterized by consensus-based decision-making
and frank dialogue.
It comprises 27 members: the 10 ASEAN member states
(Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar,
Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam); the 10 ASEAN
dialogue partners (Australia, Canada, China, the European
Union, India, Japan, New Zealand, the Republic of Korea, Russia
and the United States); Bangladesh, the Democratic People's
Republic of Korea, Mongolia, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Timor-
Leste; and one ASEAN observer (Papua New Guinea).
WEST ASIA
Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation

Objectives:

 Ensuring that the goods, services,


investments and people move easily
across boarders.
East Asia Summit (EAS)
 The East Asia Summit (EAS) is the Indo-
Pacific's premier forum for strategic dialogue.
 It is the only leader-led forum at which all
key partners meet to discuss the full range of
political, security and economic challenges
facing the Indo-Pacific, and has an important
role to play in advancing closer regional
cooperation.
SOUTH ASIA
South Asian Association for Regional
Cooperation (SAARC)
 It was established with the signing of the
SAARC Charter in Dhaka on 8 December 1985.
The Secretariat of the Association was set up
in Kathmandu on 17 January 1987.
 The objectives of the Association as outlined in
the SAARC Charter are:
To promote the welfare of the peoples of
South Asia and to improve their quality of life; to
accelerate economic growth, social progress and
cultural development in the region and to
provide all individuals the opportunity to live in
dignity and to realize their full potentials;
to promote and strengthen collective self-reliance
among the countries of South Asia; to contribute to
mutual trust, understanding and appreciation of one
another’s problems; to promote active collaboration
and mutual assistance in the economic, social,
cultural, technical and scientific fields; to strengthen
cooperation with other developing countries; to
strengthen cooperation among themselves in
international forums on matters of common
interests; and to cooperate with international and
regional organizations with similar aims and
purposes.
