DHSUD@2:
Building homes, communities
and partnership amid pandemic
BY CHRISTIAN V. CABAJAR

Commitment, resiliency
and hard work.
These are the three words that best describe the
Department of Human Settlements and Urban Develop
ment (DHSUD) amid the challenges posed by the raging
COVID‑19 pandemic and in the aftermath of calamities
and disasters that struck the country last year, wreaking
havoc on the economy. The same words also propelled
the Department to achieve its mission and mandate on
its second year, all in the name of highest quality public
service.
Since its creation on February 14, 2019 — a Valentine’s
Day — DHSUD, as President Rodrigo Duterte’s “gift of
love”, has ensured the provision of sustainable, resilient
and affordable housing to Filipinos, especially the under
privileged, in well-planned communities.
The achievements and accomplishments were notched
through the steady hand and effective leadership of Secre
tary Eduardo Del Rosario despite DHSUD’s undergoing
birth pains like every new agency in a bureaucracy. The
feat was achieved with the support and cooperation of Key
Shelter Agencies (KSAs) and partner-developers.
For its second anniversary, DHSUD celebrated its gains
and triumphs among the trials of the past year — from
laying the foundations that would shape the country’s
housing sector to crafting new policies meant to ensure
the industry’s future.
Because DHSUD, indeed, has come a long way.
