• An assertive sentence is a sentence that states a
fact.

• Such sentences are simple statements. They state,


assert, or declare something.

• Example:
Priya is a student. She lives in a big city.
• Interrogative sentence: A sentence that asks
a question is called an interrogative
sentence.

• Examples:
What is your name?
Where do you live?
Why are you late?
• Exclamatory sentence is a sentence that expresses
sudden and strong feelings, such as surprise,
wonder, pity, sympathy, happiness, or gratitude.

• Examples:
What a shame!
Oh, am I tired!
Hurrah! We won the game!
I am glad you came today!
• Imperative sentence is a sentence which gives a
command, suggestion, makes a request, or
expresses a wish.

• Examples:
Go to your room. (an order)
Please lend me your book. (a request)
Have a good time at the picnic. (a wish)
I think blue looks better on you. (a suggestion)
• A negative sentence (or statement) states that something
is not true or incorrect.

• A negative adverb has to be added in order to negate


or “cancel” the validity of the sentence.

• Example:
She is not playing.
We don’t have a pen.
I shouldn’t play.
Do Now: Check the table in your notebook now. It should be

Identify the types of sentence in each of the following:

1. Please leave your footwear outside.


2. Will you wait here?
3. Where have you been all this while?
4. We will not tolerate this.
5. I am your friend.
6. My sister lives in Mexico.
7. What did you do then?
8. Be a bit more careful.
9. Never speak to me like that again.
10. Always remember what I told you.
11.The ball rolled slowly into the goal.
12.Wow! Those fireworks are beautiful!
13.Let’s not waste our time.
14.Tomorrow will be a long day for me.
15.Do not litter.
DO NOW: Form three sentences each for ALL types of
sentences we just learnt.

1. Each sentence should contain at least 3 words.


2. Each sentence should be your original work.
3. Each sentence should be grammatically and logically
correct.
