Gas Turbine (GT) Controls Technology Terms

GE programs addressing industry needs and definition of terms

• OpFlex is a suite of solutions addressing today’s demands for Operational Flexibility. Ready,
Advantage, Balance & Reserve are collections of applications making up the suite, each
addressing specific customer needs.
• Enhanced Transient Stability (ETS) is one 40+ applications within the OpFlex suite, it is an
application of Balance. ETS addresses rapid grid frequency and load transients by making real-
time adjustments in combustor operation. ETS accomplishes this by using model based control
(MBC) technology.
• Model Based Control (MBC) is an advanced technology that improves control accuracy,
responsiveness, reliability and capability. MBC is also known as Direct Boundary Control.
• All Load Cycle Control (ALCC) applies MBC methodology from full-speed no load to peak load.
Prior to the development of ALCC MBC was limited to loads corresponding to Dry Low NOx (DLN)
Mode 6 and higher. Many OpFlex applications utilize MBC. ALCC is the F class control
architecture for all future product development.
ISP: Input Signal Processing or Integrated Sensor Protection, a component of GE’s Model Based
Control implementation
FDIA: Fault Detection, Isolation, and Accommodation. replace sensed signals with modeled
signals when required, and initiate protective action on the turbine.
