BORE PILE PROCEDURE

Quality Awareness Training

Bored Pile Procedure :
1. Setting out Location of Bored Pile
2. Casing Driving
3. Boring
4. Bore hole Cleaning
5. KODEN-Test
6. Insert of Steel Cage
7. Insert Tremie Pipe
8. Flashing
8. Pouring the Concrete
9. Removing Casing
Quality Issues During Setting Out of Casing

Good Practices Bad Practices

 
Reference point

Make minimum 3 reference point and cross check to ensure correct position of casing-toe before
driving to avoid re-work
Casing Driving of Marine pile

Good Practices Bad Practices

 

Ensure to mark at every meter on the casing to monitor driving of casing

 

Ensure to mark at every meter on the casing to monitor driving of casing

Quality Issues During Casing Driving

Good Practices Bad Practices

 Checking

Verticality

Ensure to Check verticality during driving

Casing Driving by using Guide Pile

Good Practices Good Practices

 

Ensure that Guide pile is set out properly – survey points

Quality Issues – Prevent bore collapse

Good Practices Bad Practices

 

During boring maintain water level up to Ground Level or below1 meter to Avoid Pile Collapses
Provide safety barriers around open bore holess
Quality Issues – Measuring depth

Good Practices Bad Practices

 

Ensure to check sounding after removing of each/every two bucket to avoid pile collapse, if there is any
unexpected sounding immediately stop boring & fill water up to GL then inform to site supervisor
Quality Issues - Pile Bore hole cleaning

Bucket

After reaching final level make sure to clean the bore hole with cleaning bucket before lowering the pile
cage in bore hole
Quality Issues - Pile Cage Lifting

Tremie Pipe general information

Type of Tremie pipes : Bottom Tremie pipe :

1m Length

2m Length
3m Length

6m Length
Quality issues during Tremie lowering & Concreting

How to insert tremie pipe :

1. Make sure that total length of tremie pipe is at
least 200mm more than the length of the pile
2. Bottom tremie pipe should be the longest
3. Before pouring, lower tremie pipe to the
bottom of the bored pile hole
4. During concrete pouring, maintain to bury
the tremie pipe into concrete as below :
Quality issue during Tremie lowering & Concreting

Good Practices Bad Practices

 

Ensure that during concreting Tremie pipe always should be in center position
Quality issue after tremie lowering

Good Practices Bad Practices

 

Ensure to put the charging ball in side tremie pipe before connecting the concrete hose to avoid trapped
air in the pipe
Quality issue during Tremie lowering

Good Practices Bad Practices

 

Ensure to check all tremie lock before put into the bore hole
Quality issue during Flushing

Good Practices Bad Practices

 

Ensure to clean the bore hole by proper flushing

Quality issue during concrete pouring

Good Practices Good Practices

 

Ensure to check that slump and Temperature has been checked before start pouring

 

Make sure concrete pouring should continue up to 0.750 – 1 Meter above from the cut off level or make
overflow to get good quality of concrete at cut off level.
AND NOW FOR THE TESTING!!!

1. What length of tremie pipe that should be at the bottom?

a. shortest b. medium c. longest

2. What would be the water level in the bore hole during boring?
a. 3m above GL b. Maintain up to GL c. 3m below GL

3. What would be the total tremie pipe length?

a. More then bore length b. Less then Bore length c. equal to bore length

4. What would be the final fresh concrete level from cut-off level?
a. 3.0-4.0m above b. 0.750 – 1.0m above c. up to cut-off level

5. What is the minimum depth of buried Tremie during concreting?

a. 1m b. Less then 0.5 m c. More then 2 to 2.5m
