MAJOR CONCEPTS OF
SOCIAL LEARNING THEORY
Observational Learning
O We can learn from two ways:
O a) Enactive Learning
- learning by doing
- direct experience
O b) Vicarious Learning
- learning through observation
FOUR PROCESS THAT INFLUENCE
OBSERVATIONAL LEARNING
1. Attention
- paying attention to the model
- noticing the behavior
2. Retention
- memory
- how well the behavior is remembered
- remembers/retains what was noticed
3. Reproduction
- to physically reproduce the skill
- the ability to perform the behavior that the model had
demonstrate
4. Motivation
- the will to perform a certain behavior
- you have to be motivated to copy a behavior, otherwise
you’ll stop practicing it eventually forget it.
TRIADIC RECIPROCAL DETERMINISM
BEHAVIOR
2. Vicarious Experience
- Gained by observing others perform activities successfully
- Often referred to as modeling
