HOW SPEECH AFFECTS WATER

By Jessica Brooks
EDU 214
PROBLEM AND QUESTION

• How does your attitude and words you use affect water?
HYPOTHESIS

• If you speak to all the jars of water with rice, then they will all mold the same
amount and not have changed throughout the week.
MATERIALS

• Water
• Rice
• Mason Jar
• Paper
• Tape
• Your voice
PROCEDURE

• 1. put the cooked in a mason jar

• 2. do this for 3 jars.
• 3. label one jar happy, another sad, and another control
• Everyday for a week you will tell the jar with the corresponding jar something
happy, something sad, and nothing to the control.
• At the end of the week see how much mold is in each of the jars.
• This is my husband and I doing the experiment.
RESULTS

• In the happy jar there was little to no mold at all; however, in the sad jar the
rice was completely covered with mold.
• In the control jar there was little to no mold. There was a slight discoloration
in the rice
90%
;however, it was no where near as bad as the sad jar.

CONCLUSION

• The more negative you were to the jar of rice you the more of an affect you
produced that made the water and rice mold faster. This means that the words
that are said to each other do affect our well being on the inside. In conclusion
this is a great way to know that scientifically words do affect others actions
and their well being.

Artifact description: Make a science project and create a power point presentation to reflect you findings.
NETS: NET-S: Students leverage technology to take an active role in choosing, achieving and demonstrating competency in
their learning goals, informed by the learning sciences.
Applications to Skills Learned in the future: I think that this would be a great way to display science projects or any other
research projects that the students may do. This is a great way for the students to get used to technology and it is easy
enough for the students to navigate how to make a table and for others to view the project as well. I think that this
experiment that I did would be great for an anti-bullying message. This would be able to show the students that their
words really do affect others. It shows the chemical change of the rice and the water molding at a faster rate because of
the negative vibrations that are given off by our voice. I think that it would be great students to see what affect they have
on everything by the words they speak. Overall I think that this would be a great way to present all the research projects
because then the students won’t have to worry about their writing and have their parents help them on the presentation.
This is a good way for the students to be in control of how they want to make the project.
