Process safety culture

Sushant Chaturvedi
What is process safety culture
• It is combination of values and behaviours that
determine the manner in which process safety is
managed
• It lies in the answers to questions like
1. How we do things around here
2. What we expect here
3. How we behave when no one is watching.
• A well developed culture is one in which the values
are reflected in the groups actions and newcomers
are expected to endorse these values in order to
remain part of the group
• How an organization approached process control risk
issues and process safety management system failures
can often be linked to cultural deficiencies
• Some indicators of sound process safety culture
1) Establish and enforce high standards of process safety
performance
2) Maintain a sense of vulnerability
3) Ensure open and effective communication
4) Provide timely response to process safety issues and
concerns
