Fire Watcher specifications
 The Fire Watcher should be:
- Watchful, careful, Competent, have a presence
mentally & have a high reaction.
- Got the principal and the key Training (Fire
Fighting – First Aid – H2S – PTW – Hot Work,
........).
- Aware & Understand for the task which he will play
as a fire watcher in it.
- Aware & Understand for the his duets and his
roles.
- Familiar with all safety equipment adjacent to the
work area (deluge system, fire extinguishers,
General platform alarm switches, …….).
- Familiar with all Types of Gas Detectors and how to
use each of them.
 Fire Watcher Duets:

1. Fire Watcher must ensure that an


inspection of the work-site has been
carried out by the Performing Authority
(PA) and Issuing Authority (IA), and that
all flammable materials from the
immediate and adjacent area’s have been
removed prior to commencement of Hot
Work.
2. Fire Watcher must be remain in
attendance at all times during Hot Work.
3. Fire Watcher will remain to monitor work
area for a period after work ceases as
agreed by Performing Authority.
4. If necessary a second Fire Watcher will be
detailed to monitor adjacent areas.
5. Must be familiar with all safety equipment
adjacent to the work area :
 The method of operating the deluge
system.
 Telephones and their location.
 Emergency number for Control Room:
2800
 General platform alarm switches and their
location
 Use of Portable fire extinguishers.
 Will have a dedicated, fully charged, fire
extinguisher (not from installed platform
equipment).
6. Will periodically check portable gas
monitor for:
 Battery charge.
 Alarm indication switch in correct position
to monitor.
 Monitor is positioned in effective position
 (Upwind of Hot Work)
7. If necessary to change out faulty or
discharged meter then Hot Work
must be temporarily suspended until
a working meter is on site.
8. Ensure a fire watch hose is
pressurized to the nozzle and laid
out ready for use. Run hose away
from walkways and stairways if
possible to avoid trip hazard.
9. Continuously monitor for stray
sparks and inform operator when
necessary to adjust / damp down
fire blankets.
10. Periodically check adjacent areas
when burning/welding is being done
to module walls, decks, roofs, etc.
11. Must be capable of isolating
equipment in the event of
emergency and / or alarm status.
12. Electrical equipment must be
isolated at source each time the
work site is vacated either for work
breaks or in the event of
emergencies.
13. Ensure Hot Work has ceased in
event of platform alarm and
equipment is left in a safe condition.
14. Ensure that access and escape
routes are clear at all times.
15. Must be in possession of
and use protective/dark
goggles or glasses when
in the immediate vicinity
of work.
16. Ensure that worksite is in
safe condition before
proceeding to muster
point in the event of a
general platform alarm
 Fire Watcher Form :
- Any Hot Work Procedure should
include Fire Watcher Duets
Form consisted on all Fire Watcher
duets and contained of the Fire
Watcher signature.
- This Form should be signed by The
Performing Authority.
- More than one fire watcher can be
named at the Form.
