* Geographic location
It limits the North with the United States of America and
southeast with Guatemala and Belize. East borders the
Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea, and west by the
Pacific Ocean.

*Population
113 724 226 inhabitants, 65% mestizos (mixed
European and indigenous) and 35% Indians (Native
Americans or Indians: Nahua, Maya, Zapotec, Mixtec,
Totonac and Tarascan or Purepechas).

Capital City: Mexico DF.


It is one of the most populated cities in the world with
about 11 million inhabitants and a conurbation almost
doubling its population.

Official language
Spanish. Nahuatl, Maya, Zapotec, Mixtec, and
Otomi: more than 67 native languages, among
them are also spoken.

Weather
Mexico is a country with a great climatic diversity, whose
average is between 15 and 40 C. It is possible to find
high mountain cold climates, dry or rainy. The most
notable for its variations is the climate of the state of
Chihuahua.

Gastronomy
Mexican cuisine is based on three national dishes:
tortillas or tacos, beans and chili. Tortillas are thin
round masses kneading wheat or corn are cooked on a
griddle. The beans are prepared in soup, boiled or
fried, usually served with tortillas. Mexico is also
famous for its alcoholic beverages, especially mezcal
and tequila. Pulque is a mildly alcoholic drink derived
from agave juice.
Mexico is famous for its gastronomy. But beyond tacos
and guacamole, which are internationally renowned,
there are rich and varied culinary throughout the
country traditions. The flavors, aromas and textures of
traditional Mexican cuisine are a pleasant surprise for
the senses, especially the exotic products such as
maguey worms, ants and fried grasshoppers.

Weight was the first currency in the world to use
the "$" sign, even before the US dollar, which

culture and traditions


Religion has an important presence in the national and
regional festivals. One of the most unique is the Day of the
Dead, celebrated between days 1 and 2 November, the
date on which according to popular belief the dead back
from the beyond to participate in the festival along with the
living. To receive offerings are made in the cemeteries with
their favorite foods and drinks and music is played.

Mexicans perceive the death of a very peculiar way,


and even "fun" of it and accept it very openly. It is
present in everyday life, songs, parties and poetry.
They believe that is inextricably linked to life and
celebrate it is one more way to celebrate life.
Mexicans also are characterized by cheerful,
friendly and welcoming people. They love the party,
music and fun, but at the same time are serious
people and workers. In short, a fascinating and
diverse people that will open arms and invite you to
know and to enjoy life with them.

Catrina has been an element of the celebrations of


the Day of the Dead for a century, and is still
inspiring costumes and altars in Mexico and the
United States
La Catrina, originates from the hand of Jose
Guadalupe Posada, considered the father of
Mexican printmaking. Born in 1852, he apprenticed
to a local recorder and editor when he was only 14
years. Moving to Mexico City in 1888, soon he
became the leading artist Antonio Vanegas Arroyo,
publisher of illustrated leaflets, street gazettes and
other popular forms of literature, including books of
songs for popular corridos.

Our Lady of Guadalupe1 is a Marian


apparition of the Catholic Church of
Mexican origin, whose image has its
principal place of worship in the
Basilica of Guadalupe, located on the
slopes of the hill of Tepeyac, north of
Mexico City.
