INTRODUCTION
1. Two U-shaped yokes or forks which are
integral with driving & driven shafts
2. The cross, which is connecting link
The arm of the cross are at right angles. The
torque is transmitted from the driving shaft
to the driven shaft through the cross.
DISADVANTAGES
It can not be used for high speed
applications.
In case of single Hookes joint, even if the
driving shaft is rotating at constant speed,
the driven shaft rotates with acceleration.
this generate, the inertia torque on the driven
shaft.
APPLICATIONS
Coupling between the gear box and the
differential of automobile.
To transmit the drives to different spindles of
multi spindles drilling machine.
It is used to connect two non parallel and
intersecting axis shafts, having small angle
between two axis..
DIFFERENTIALS
What is a differential?
Differential is a device capable of transmitting
torque and rotation through three shafts, almost
always used in one of two ways. In one of these,
it receives one input and provides two outputs;
this is found in most automobiles. In an
automobile and other wheeled vehicles, the
differential allows each of the driving wheels to
rotate at different speeds, while supplying equal
torque to each of them.
Purpose of a differential
The differential is found on all modern cars
and trucks, and also in many all-wheel-drive
vehicles. These all-wheel-drive vehicles
need a differential between each set of
drive wheels, and they need one between
the front and the back wheels as well,
because the front wheels travel a different
distance through a turn than the rear
wheels.
