PRESENTATION ON INDIAN RAILWAY

Submitted by HIMANSHU MAHENDRU 1003331816

ABOUT INDIAN RAILWAY

Indian Railways is an Indian state-owned enterprise, owned and operated by the government of India through the Ministry of Railways. It is one of the world's largest railway networks comprising 115,000 km (71,000 mi) of track over a route of 65,000 km (40,000 mi) and 7,500 stations.

In India first railway was built between Mumbai and Thane in 1852 and the first passenger train ran between the two stations, covering a distance of 34 km, on April 16, 1853.

ZONES OF INDIAN RAILWAY

1. EASTERN RAILWAY 2. SOUTH CENTRAL RAIWAY 3. NORTHEN RAILWAY 4. NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY 5. SOUTHERN RAILWAY 6. CENTRAL RAILWAY 7. WESTERN RAILWAY 8. NORTH EAST FRONTIER RAILWAY 9. SOUTH CENTRAL RAILWAY

PRS SYSTEM
A countrywide online passenger reservation and ticketing system Developed and maintained by CRIS( CENTER FOR RAILWAY INFORMATION SYSTEMS) . Reservation is done via remote location excess. All computers are interconnected are Main frame .

UNRESERVED TICKETING SYSTEM-UTS

The work load involved in printing , accounting and issuing tickets to this mega segment has been a difficult task

Indian railways introduced UTS to improve customer satisfaction, revenue generation, accounting, and reporting capabilities and reduce fraud
System is proposed to be extended progressively on all zonal railways

Tickets can be issued upto 3 days in advance

Indian railways have received the prestigious computer world honour 2004 for UTS that has improved customers travelling experience and provided operational efficiency

IVRS SYSTEM
A state-of-the-art interactive voice response system (IVRS) can recognise a customers voice and answer queries as well as any person. It can enhance our organisations efficiency and make our customers happier, unlike conventional interactive systems.

COMMUNICATION SYSTEM FOR RAILWAY Optical Systems Microwave Systems Wireless Media Radio System Telephone Systems Passenger Information Public Address Systems Signal Post Telephones

Fiber Media
Optical fibers use light to send information through the optical medium.

It uses the principal of total internal reflection.

Modulated light transmissions are used to transmit the signal.

PUBLIC ADDRESS SYSTEM FOR LOUDSPEAKER

Announcements of train arrivals and departures, delays, etc. will often be integrated in the passenger information system where preprogrammed messages are stored on data voice recorders on stations along the railway line. Unmanned stations will have interface between the interlocking system and the Public Address System for automatic platform announcements.

WIRE LESS
MEDIA

Very useful in difficult terrain where cable laying is not possible.

Provides mobility to communication nodes. Right of way and cable laying costs can be reduced. Susceptible to rain, atmospheric variations and Objects in transmission path.

PROPOGATION PATH

WHAT IS MICRO WAVE COMM UNICA TION

DEFINITION A communication system that utilizes the radio frequency band spanning 2 to 60 GHz. As per IEEE, electromagnetic waves between 30 and 300 GHz are called millimeter waves (MMW) instead of microwaves as their wavelengths are about 1 to 10mm. MICROWAVE SYSTEMS

Microwave communication is line of sight radio communication.

Microwave communication can be analog or digital.

Propagation Types
1.Ground wave propagation 2.Line of sight propagation 3.Sky wave propagation

RADIO SYSTEM
Dispatch radio systems for railways. Base station infrastructure and corresponding mobiles and portable radios can be provided in all frequencies currently used by the industry. Each controller in the Traffic Control Room has a radio dispatch console for voice communication with the train drivers. Incoming calls are given priorities by the drivers and appear on the screen according to these priorities. Please ask for detailed information about radio systems for railways.

SIGNALPOST TELEPHONES (SPT)

SPTS are still use in many railway infrastructure companies. Being part of the safety system.SPT's offer a well proven and reliable system concept with a unique identification of the calling party. The SPT system can be operated in both local and central mode.

CONCLUSION
Excellence is an art won by training and habituation. We do not act rightly because we have virtue or excellence, but we rather have those because we have acted rightly. We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act but a habit.

After being trained at the office of DIVISIONAL RAILWAY MANAGER I came to know that how Indian Railway employs the field of Electronics and communication Engineering for meeting its daily requirement in the segment of communication
