Student Teaching Spring 2012 Badminton Lesson Plan Teachers Name: Mayra Carrera Teaching Date: 1/25, 1/27,

1/31, and 2/2 School: Mahomet-Seymour High School Content/Unit: Badminton Round Robin Tourney Equipment Needed: 24 badminton racquets 12 birdies 6 nets for 6 courts 12 poles to make 6 courts Student Prerequisites: Basic listening, following direction, and space awareness skills Badminton rules and strategy. Dressed appropriately to participate Student Objectives: The student will be able to: 1. (Psychomotor): successfully complete a doubles match of badminton, using proper technique and strategic skills for serving. 2. (Cognitive): properly identify and keep accurate scoring throughout all their matches for the entirety of the class and when asked by the teacher. 3. (Affective): encourage and cooperate with their doubles partner as they play their matches for the entire class period. National Standards: 1. Demonstrates competency in motor skills and movement patterns needed to perform a variety of physical activities. 5. Exhibits responsible, personal, and social behavior that respects self and others in physical activity settings. ISBE Standards: 19.A.5. Demonstrate knowledge and skills in a self-selected individual sport, team sport, creative movement and work-related activities. 19.B.4. Analyze various movement patterns for efficiency and effectiveness. Safety: Students will watch spacing with one another and respect each others personally boundaries. They will also be reminded to treat the equipment properly.

Health-Related Fitness (HRF) Component & Activities that Support Learning of HRF: This lesson will address muscular and cardiovascular endurance. This component will be addressed with all the repetitive movements and burst that the students do partaking in a badminton match. (1 min) Set Induction: The teacher will take attendance, remind the students to keep score, remind them of serving rules, and direct them to what court they will play their first match. They picked their partner on 1/ 24. (28 min) Activity 1: Badminton Round Robin Tourney Description and Management: There will be a bracket sheet posted on the door of the equipment closet in which shows where the students are to go. Each match will last approximately 10 minutes. After 10 minutes the scores will be reported to the teacher. The teacher will then note the winner of the match on the bracket sheet. The students should be able to play 3 games in a period. Extensions (E): The students, at any point, can higher the intensity of the match to a quicker rally. Refinements (R): Shorter and wider for doubles serve Full court for play Longer and narrow for singles serve and play Application (A): How many games can you win in a row? (1 min) Closure: The teacher will have the students place their racquets and birdies back on the rack in the equipment closet. She will also notify them that they are playing pickleball tomorrow. Then they will change back in the locker room.
