Learner Description
The learners are junior high or high school students who each have an Ipod Touch or other compatible mobile device. They will have a basic understanding of how to search for and install apps using their mobile devices.
Introduction
Gain the Attention of the Students
1. Example script: How many of you have ever received an email or a text message that offended you in some way only to find out later that it was due to a misunderstanding as a result of poor communication? Or, have you ever sent a message in haste that you later regretted sending and wished that you could take back?

2. Explain how both of these situations may have been avoided by paying more attention netiquette. 3. Ask who has heard of the term netiquette.
2. Explain how difficult it is for humor and sarcasm to come across in writing or how words can be misconstrued to sound harsher than they were meant to be. 3. Motivate students by explaining how netiquette will help them in their communications at work, school and in their social lives with friends.

Learning Objectives
1. Students will understand how to set up a mobile Wordpress blog and how to post in their blog. 2. Students will properly define the term netiquette. 3. Students will properly define the term blog. 4. Students will demonstrate that they understand how netiquette has affected them personally by writing a reflective post in their Wordpress blog. 5. Students will be able to identify examples of improper netiquette. 6. Students will use proper netiquette to comment on the posts of their peers.
Method
1. Go to the App Store on ITunes and search for BrainPOP Featured Movie. Download and Install the FREE app.

Watch the BrainPOP movie on Digital Etiquette and take the self quiz. Although your grade on the quiz wont be recorded, you should feel comfortable that you understand the material. Review the movie as necessary. Watch BrainPOP movie on Blogs and take the self quiz. Again, although your grade on the quiz wont be recorded, you should feel comfortable that you understand the material. Review the movie as necessary.
2. Go to the App Store on ITunes and search for WordPress for IOS. Download and Install the FREE blogging app. Setup a WordPress blog using your mobile device. You can still access your blog from a regular computer but you should have the app on your mobile device and be comfortable using it. 3. Go to the App Store on ITunes and search for Google Mobile (if you dont already have it installed). Download and Install this FREE app. Try using Google Mobiles Voice search command by pressing the microphone and clearly saying the keyword(s) you are searching for. Find and read 3 additional resources for netiquette (bookmark these so you can reference them later). Here is one you can start with: http://edtech2.boisestate.edu/lloydt/502/netiquette.html 4. In your blog write a post about netiquette that includes the following: a definition of the term blog. a definition of the term netiquette. a reflection on your experience of netiquette either at school, work or in your personal life. two examples of poor netiquette (keeping personal identities private) along with ideas of how they could have been worded differently. links to 3 additional resources on netiquette (not included BrainPop). 5. Share the URL to your blog with your teacher and peers. 6. Comment on the blog posts of three peers by adhering to the proper rules of netiquette.

Example script: The next time you go to press SEND on that email or text message, read your message again. Think carefully about the words you have chosen and whether or not they communicate the message you are trying to convey. Is there any way your words can be misconstrued? Once you are comfortable that you have followed the proper rules of netiquette, press SEND, relax and wait for the reply. Likewise, the next time you receive a message that rubs you the wrong way, consider that maybe the sender was having a bad day or, perhaps, he or she isnt aware of the proper rules of netiquette. This might be a good opportunity to test your netiquette by writing a tactful, calm, communicative reply.
