SPRING 2012

A MESSAGE FROM THE NATIONAL PRESIDENT

I know this year has been tough for all of us. We dealt with our first hazing incident nationally and a loss of a sister. Stephanie Philip and her dedication to DKD will never be forgotten. Regardless of everything we have dealt with, we have definitely taken some great steps towards making DKD a better organization. I was the first to represent DKD at AFA conference and NAPA retreat. This was truly the most rewarding experience. I met leaders of other sorority/fraternities that are dealing with the same issues we are. We are not alone out there and they are all willing to help us move forward! This opened my eyes to all the untapped resources out there and what we can do as NB to better serve you. Im so excited about all the ideas I have to share with you at NATIONAL CONFERENCE! Make sure to come because I will tell you it will be worth it! - Dhara Patel ([email protected]) P.S. Enjoy the game below!

NATIONAL BOARD UPDATES

Below is a list of VACANT positions we have on NB and ND. We are truly in need of help nationally in DKD. We are at a crossroads and we need your help and guidance to move forward as an organization. We aim to make a difference not only within out local school and Austin communities, but also abroad by working with Save the Children for disasters worldwide.

SPRING 2012

CHILD week: Gamma chapter will be hosting their annual CHILD week in April; this year we will raise money to help DreamCatchers For Abused Children. On Monday, we start off with a Kick-off Rally to get students attention. Throughout the day, we try to sell food donations and t-shirts to students passing by on their way to class. We also plan to have a snow cone, pop corn, cotton candy machine, & a photo booth. On Tuesday, we will have a service event open to the entire university with Helping Hand Home. On Wednesday, we host our famous Battle of the Sexes event. For this, we invite all student organizations to register and compete with each other for a grand prize at the end. Finally, on Thursday, we end with a fundraiser at a popular local restaurant. Socials and Retreats: For our next social, we want to go to Jumpstreet, a huge gym filled with a variety of trampolines, obstacle course, & games such as dodgeball. We will have an outdoor sisterhood retreat in April. Stay tune for more updates! Recruitment: We are associating our Xi class at Gamma chapter this semester. Association has just begun and we have given bids to 11 girls. Throughout recruitment, we had mixers with Beta Kappa Gamma and Delta Epsilon Psi, made smores, played pool and laser tag, and made blankets for a local childrens center. Service from the Heart: Gamma Chapter hosted Service from the Heart, an annual event that we have each spring. We invite other Greeks to come make Valentines Day cards to be delivered to the nursing homes. This event was very successful this year. Actives

A MESSAGE FROM THE RUTGERS COLONY PRESIDENT

My name is Yesha Mehta. I am currently President at Rutgers Colony. I am a senior and Information Technology and Informatics major and Economics minor. I am pretty much a night student as I work full-time at Johnson & Johnson as an eCommerce Analyst. In terms of school, I will be done taking full-time class this semester so that will be a relief. School, work, and DKD can be stressful at times, but I wouldnt change my life at all given the chance. The colony at Rutgers University has been working very hard to leave our mark in terms of service, our relationship with other Greek organizations, as well as our OFSA office. Through SAGA, we have developed many relationships with 9 other South Asian organizations such as fraternities, sororities, and service-affiliated organizations such as SALT and SOFKIN. We have many goals to continue to expand and make a difference in our community. Thank you all for your continued support as we wouldnt be as strong as we are now without you all. Accomplishments: Got through our first semester and we still love each other! Good reputation on campus Challenges: Need more girls!! Successful events: Adopt a Shelter and Cards for Kids Still on our first year on campus, we are still working on receiving those awards. The girls have been on top of the game, accomplishing successful events, raising money, exceeding expectations and off course upholding the legacy left behind by the sisters all over the nation. Our goal for this semester is to get as many girls as we can. Therefore, recruitment activities are under construction along with recruitment shirts and we are looking forward to another successful semester as DKD UNT and Denton Colony. We are truly honored to be a part of this amazing sorority and because of the excellent work former DKD girls have accomplished, we came into Greek Life with a good reputation as well as expectations of upholding a true legacy left behind by girls all over the nation. -Nazia Ali ([email protected])
