CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE SURFACE PROTECTION AND TO SOME PARTS.

CAUTION: YOU MUST NOT PUT FUEL THAT HAS BEEN DRAINED FROM THE ENGINE BACK INTO THE
FUEL SYSTEM. CONTAMINATION IN THE FUEL CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO SOME PARTS.

(1) On the ENG MASTER control panel 125VU:
- Make sure that the ENG MASTER switches are in the OFF position.
- Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to use them.
(2) Do the EIS start procedure (only EWD and SD)

(3) Make sure that on the System Display (SD) fuel page the ENG 1,(2) Low Pressure (LP) valve is
shown closed.

(1) Make sure that the engine 1, (2) shutdown occurred not less than 5 minutes before you do this
procedure.

(2) Open the access door 811.

A. Drain the Fuel from the Fuel System:
(1) Drain the LP fuel supply:
(a) Put the CONTAINER - CLEAN, APPLICABLE in position below the fuel oil heat exchanger
to collect the fuel.

(b) Remove the drain plug (2):

CAUTION: YOU MUST PREVENT THE MOVEMENT OF THE DRAIN PLUG


ADAPTER WHEN YOU REMOVE THE DRAIN PLUG. IF YOU DO NOT
DO THIS YOU CAN LOOSEN THE ADAPTER AND CAUSE A
SUBSEQUENT FUEL LEAK.
1 Hold the drain plug adapter with an applicable wrench and remove the drain plug
(2) from the exchanger: then let the fuel flow from the exchanger into the container.
(c) Remove and discard the used seal ring (1).
(d) Install the new IPC-CSN(73-11-41-60 ITEM 020) SEAL RING (1) on the drain plug (2)
Ref. AMM TASK 70-02-01-910-801.
(e) Install the drain plug (2).
(f) TORQUE the drain plug (2) to between 110 and 120 lbf.in (1.24 and 1.36 m.daN) Ref.
AMM TASK 70-51-00-910-802.
(g) Safety the drain plug (2) with safety cable (Material Ref. OMat 2-142) Ref. AMM TASK 70-
12-04-910-806 or lockwire (Material Ref. OMat 238) Ref. AMM TASK 70-12-04-910-804.
(2) Drain the HP fuel supply:
(a) Put the CONTAINER - CLEAN, APPLICABLE in position below the drain point in the tube
to collect the fuel.
(b) Remove the drain plug (2) from the drain plug adapter: then let the fuel flow from the
supply into the container.
(c) Remove and discard the used seal ring (1).
(d) Install the new IPC-CSN(73-11-42-61 ITEM 020) SEAL RING (1) drain plug (2) Ref. AMM
TASK 70-02-01-910-801.
(e) Install the drain plug (2).
(f) Torque the drain plug (2):
PRE SB 73-C550
1 TORQUE the drain plug (2) to between 157.5 and 192.5 lbf.in (1.78 and 2.18 m.

WARNING: YOU MUST BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DISCONNECT THE TUBE CONNECTORS
FROM THE FMU. IT IS POSSIBLE FOR REMAINING PRESSURIZED FUEL TO
SPRAY ON YOU WHEN YOU DISCONNECT THE CONNECTORS. THIS CAN CAUSE
AN INJURY TO PERSONS.

CAUTION: YOU MUST OBEY THE INSTRUCTIONS GIVEN IN THE STANDARD PRACTISE 70-
12-01 WHEN YOU REMOVE/INSTALL THE TUBE(S). IF YOU DO NOT DO THIS,
DAMAGE TO THE TUBE(S) CAN OCCUR.

CAUTION: YOU MUST NOT BEND THE ELECTRICAL HARNESSES TOO MUCH WHEN YOU
CONNECT/DISCONNECT THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS. THE HARNESSES
CAN BE DAMAGED AND CAN CAUSE ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT DEFECTS.
(1) Disconnect the electrical connectors (2), (3) and (4).
(2) Put CAP - BLANKING on the disconnected electrical connectors and the related receptacles.
(3) Put the CONTAINER - CLEAN, APPLICABLE in position to collect the remaining fuel.
(4) Remove the tube assembly (9):
(a) Disconnect the tube connectors (8) and (10) and remove the tube assembly (9).
(b) Put CAP - BLANKING on the disconnected tube connectors and the FMU.
(5) Remove the tube assembly (6):
(a) Disconnect the tube connectors (5) and (7) and remove the tube assembly (6).
(b) Put CAP - BLANKING on the disconnected tube connectors and the FMU.
(6) Disconnect the tube connector (11):
PRE SB 73-C550 and PRE SB 71-D534
(7) Remove the tube assembly (26):
(a) Release the clips at clip positions F and E: Keep the clips on the tubes.
(b) Disconnect the electrical connectors:

CAUTION: YOU MUST NOT BEND THE ELECTRICAL HARNESSES TOO MUCH
WHEN YOU CONNECT/DISCONNECT THE ELECTRICAL
CONNECTORS. THE HARNESSES CAN BE DAMAGED AND CAN
CAUSE ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT DEFECTS.
1 Disconnect the electrical connectors (21) and (25).
(c) Put the CAP - BLANKING on the disconnected electrical connectors and the fuel
temperature thermocouples.
(d) Loosen, but do not remove, the bolt which attaches the clip to the bracket (28) at clip
position D.

NOTE: This is done so that the bracket (28) is kept in its location but will move away
from the tube (26) during removal.
(e) Remove the bolts (24) and (27), and remove the tube assembly (26) and the seal plate
(29). Keep the seal plate (29) for the installation task.
(f) Remove and discard the seal ring (22).

(g) Put the CAP - BLANKING and COVER - BLANKING on the disconnected tube connectors
and the fuel flow transmitter.

(8) Remove the tube assembly (26):
(a) Release the clips at clip positions F and E: Keep the clips on the tubes.
(b) Loosen, but do not remove, the bolt which attaches the clip to the bracket (28) at clip
position D.

NOTE: This is done so that the bracket (28) is kept in its location but will move away
from the tube (26) during removal.
(c) Remove the bolts (24) and (27), and remove the tube assembly (26) and the seal plate
(29). Keep the seal plate (29) for the installation task.
(d) Remove and discard the seal ring (22).
(e) Put the CAP - BLANKING and COVER - BLANKING on the disconnected tube connectors
and the fuel flow transmitter.

(9) Remove the bolts (42), the washers (43) and carefully remove the FMU (1) from the fuel pump:
Make sure all the connections to the FMU are disconnected before remove the bolts (42).
(10) Make sure the bolt at location Z does not fall as it becomes clear of the tube during removal of
the FMU.
(11) Remove and discard the seal rings (41) and (44).
(12) Do an inspection of the joint faces, the external surfaces and the internal surfaces of the tube(s)
Ref. AMM TASK 70-12-01-000-802.
(13) Inhibit the unit.

CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THERE IS NO CONTAMINATION IN THE RUST


PREVENTIVE/ MINERAL OIL. RUST PREVENTIVE/MINERAL OIL THAT HAS
CONTAMINATION CAN CAUSE DAMAGE OR SUBSEQUENT UNIT
MALFUNCTION.

CAUTION: BE CAREFUL NOT TO CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE HEAT SHIELD WHEN YOU
TOUCH THE UNIT.
(a) Drain all the remaining fuel from the unit.
(b) Turn the FMU body until the fuel outlet connection is at the top.
(c) Fill the main outlet connection, the dump inlet and the dump outlet with Temporary rust
preventive compound (Material Ref. OMat 1005) or Royco Mineral Oil (Material Ref. OMat
1024A), which has been put through a 5 micron filter.
(d) Install the parts that follow on the FMU body:
1 The dump outlet dust cap (2).
2 The dump inlet dust cap (3).

(e) Turn the FMU body through a full range of angular travel.
(f) Turn the FMU body until the fuel outlet connection is at the top.
(g) Remove the parts that follow from the FMU body:
1 The dump outlet dust cap (2).
2 The dump inlet dust cap (3).
3 The gasket (4).
4 The fuel outlet cover (5).
5 The four screws (6).
(h) Add Temporary rust preventive compound (Material Ref. OMat 1005) or Royco Mineral Oil
(Material Ref. OMat 1024A) if there is a slow decrease in the oil levels.
(i) Install the parts that follow on the FMU body:
1 The dump outlet dust cap (2).
2 The dump inlet dust cap (3).
3 The gasket (4).
4 The fuel outlet cover (5).
5 The four screws (6).
(j) Turn the FMU body until the fuel outlet connection is at the top.
(k) Remove the parts that follow from the FMU body:
1 The gasket (7).
2 The Transportation cover (8).
3 The eight shims (9).
4 The four bolts (10).
5 The four nuts (11).

Fill the main fuel inlet connection and rectangular spill chamber with Temporary rust
preventive compound (Material Ref. OMat 1005) or Royco Mineral Oil (Material Ref. OMat
1024A).
(m) Install the parts that follow on the FMU body:
1 The gasket (7).
2 The Transportation cover (8).
3 The eight shims (9).
4 The four bolts (10).
5 The four nuts (11).
(14) Make sure that the tubes are given satisfactory protection from damage/contamination Ref.
