Class–VIII (CHAPTER-09) REPRODUCTION IN ANIMALS
Answers
1. Reproduction is the important life process happens in each and
every living organism. It is the process of production of the new individuals/offspring from the parents. Reproduction ensures the passage of traits and habits from generation to generation. reproduction is important for the continuity of the species on the earth. without reproduction the species will be vanished from the earth. 2. Human beings reproduce by formation and fusion of male and female gamates. Testis in male produces Sperm while ovary in female produces Ovum (Egg). During copulation male releases sperms in the female reproductive tract. So, sperm being a motile will reach to Ovum in the fallopian tube. The male and female gamates fuses together in the fallopian tube. and the process of fusion is termed as fertilization. After the fertilization the end product is called a Zygote, which will become a foetus in the womb. 3. (a) (i) in female body. (b) (ii) metamorphosis. (c) (ii) one. 4. True/False (a) (F) (f) (F) (b) (T) (g) (T) (c) (T) (h) (T) (d) (T) (i) (T) (e) (T) (j) (F)
5. Zygote is the single cell resultant of fusion of ovum and sperm.
While the foetus is the much-developed form of zygote which has body parts and body organs. Zygote is generally observed in the fallopian tube of the female, while the foetus is the much-developed version of a baby present in the uterus. 6. The type of reproduction in which only parent is involved is termed as asexual reproduction. There is no gamete formation in this type of reproduction. Animals like Hydra, Amoeba undergo asexual mode of reproduction. Two types of Asexual reproduction are:
1. Budding: There is an outgrowth of the new progeny from the
parent in the forms of bud. Eg: Hydra. 2. Binary Fission: In this type of asexual reproduction the body of the organism mainly unicellular organism divides into two. Each of the two daughter cells are alike. Eg: Amoeba. 7. The embryo gets embedded in the wall of the uterus for further development. 8. Sudden change which happens in the animal while developing is called as metamorphosis. The animals that undergoes metamorphosis are a. Silkworm (egg-> caterpillar-> pupa ->adult) b. Frog (egg --> tadpole --> adult) 9. Internal fertilisation External fertilisation (i) The fertilisation takes (i) The fertilisation takes place place inside the female outside the body of body. female.
