Level: Upper beginner – Intermediate

OVERVIEW:
1. The cardigan is worked in 5 pieces: 2 sleeves, 1 back and 2 front panels
2. The front and back panels are crocheted from the bottom edge and in the direction of the arrows as
shown in the diagram below.
3. The cuffs are crocheted separately and then sewn to the sleeves.
4. The neckband is crocheted along the neckline after the front and back panels are sewn together.

MATERIALS AND TOOLS:


1. Option 1: Nako Inci Deluks: 550 (600, 650, 750, 800, 900) grams
Note: You could choose another yarn brands, make sure that the yarn weight is DK (8ply/ weight 3) and the
knitting gauge written in the yarn label is about 20 stitches = 4 inches (10cm).
Option 2: Two yarn threads held together: Nako Mohair Dedicate, color No.6126: 550 (600, 650, 750, 800,
900) grams
Note: You could choose another yarn brands, make sure that the yarn weight is Lace, about 550m/100g.
2. Size 4mm crochet hook
3. Size 5mm crochet hook or size that obtain gauge
4. 4 one-inch buttons
5. Scissors
6. Tapestry needle
7. Measuring tape

GAUGE: 16 sts and 17 rows = 4"x4” [10x10 cm] in Yarn Over Slip Stitch with 5mm crochet hook.
Note: Before starting crocheting the cardigan, you need to make a swatch to check the gauge first. The swatch
should be 16 sts and 17 rows = 4"x4” [10x10 cm] so that the cardigan could get the dimensions recommended
in the pattern.

A QUICK GUIDE TO THE STITCHES USED IN THIS PATTERN

Ch the number sts you need.
Row 1: Begin from 2nd st from hook, sc in all sts.

Repeat Row 2 until you reach your desired width.

Note: The back and front panels will be crocheted with the 4mm and 5mm hooks. The 4mm is for the ribbed
trims and the 5mm hook is for the torsos. If you are not comfortable with swapping them every rows, you could
crochet “YOST in next 11 sts” in all rows with the 5mm hook but this will make the front and back panels not
have the ribbed trims.
All of the YOST throughout the pattern are Back loop only.

BACK PANEL:
(*) With 4mm hook, Ch 11 sts; then change to 5mm hook, Ch 35 (36, 39, 41, 44, 46) sts. (picture 1)

Fasten off, leave a long yarn thread to sew the sleeve to the body.

Make the cuff


With 4mm hook, Ch12.
Row 1 (WS): Begin from 2nd chain from hook, YOST in next 11 sts; ch 1, turn.
Row 2: YOST in next 11 sts; Ch1, turn.
Repeat Row 2 32 (34, 34, 35, 35, 37) times more. There are 34 (36, 36, 37, 37, 39) rows in total.
Fasten off, leave a long yarn thread to sew the cuff to the sleeve.
Make other Sleeve the same.

FINISHING:
Block pieces.
Sew shoulder seams together with mattress stitch.

Sew cuffs to sleeves

Sew 2 sts of the sleeve to 1 st of the cuff as in Picture 7.

Note: Do not pull the yarn thread too tightly when you sew because it will
prevent your hands from getting through the cuffs. Stretch the cuff
horizontally to make sure that it stretches well.

Sew tops of Sleeves to armholes with mattress stitch.

Sew side and Sleeve seams together with mattress stitch.

Crochet neckband

Row 1 (RS): With 5mm hook and RS facing, begin from bottom edge of Front Right panel. Slst in first st, then
SC BLO in each st along vertical edge of right panel until you reach “stair-steppy” edge (picture 8).

How to do SC along the staircase edge: At every step, SC 1 st in (1) and SC 1 st in (2) (Picture 8), then continue
SC BLO along the vertical edge until you reach next step. Keep doing that up to top of front right panel then
move to crochet along back panel edge and finally down front left panel edge.
The neckband in the first few rows is wavy a bit but it will become smooth when you finish (Picture 10).
Row 2 (WS): Ch1, turn; Slst BLO into each sc across.
Repeat Row 2 four rows more.

Make buttonholes
Row 3 (WS): Ch1, turn; Slst BLO in first 5 sts; (***) Ch2, skip next 2 sts. Slst BLO until work from the previous
buttonhole is 2½ (2½, 2¾, 3, 3¼, 3¼)" [6 (6½, 7, 7½, 8, 8) cm]. (***) Repeat from (***) to (***) twice more.
Ch2, skip next 2 sts, Slst BLO to end of row. Turn
Row 4-7: Ch1, turn; Sl st BLO in all sts
Fasten off. Wave in end.
Sew the buttons to the neckband of right front panel, each one is 2½ (2½, 2¾, 3, 3¼, 3¼)" [6 (6½, 7, 7½, 8, 8)
cm] apart from another.
