IV. TEACHING AND LEARNING PROCEDURES
Before/Pre-Lesson Proper
Good day, learners. How are you? Before we start our class, let us have
an exciting activity. I have prepared something for you that will make your
day interesting! I will ask you questions to measure your knowledge of the
lessons that we discussed over the past 4 days.
I am so glad that you remembered our last topic. Are you excited to learn
more about the steps of scientific investigation related to health and
values education? Alright, let us begin!
Are you ready for your first activity? Fantastic! Keep up your energy as
you complete the task titled “Word Wizard!” You must arrange the
Lesson Language jumbled letters to form the correct word based on the given definition as
Practice your clue.

Activity 1: Word Wizard
Answers:
1. OBSERVATION
2. QUESTION
3. EXPERIMENT
4. SYMPTOM
5. DISEASE
You have all done a fantastic job applying context clues to infer the
meaning of unfamiliar words in a sentence. Remember to use these skills
to help you figure out unknown words as you read. Now, let us dive into
the passage and apply both reading and scientific skills.
During/Lesson Proper
I will give you 2 minutes to read the situation. Later, you will be asked to
identify the steps of scientific investigation through reading and
understanding the provided real-life situation.
(Refer to Annex B for the Reading of Key Idea/Stem)
Let us divide the class into four (4) groups. Each group will receive one
(1) question. Discuss collaboratively within your team for 5 minutes.
Afterwards, a representative from each group will share their answer
with the class.

Wow! Congratulations! You passed the challenging activity!
After/Post-Lesson Proper
Alright! Since we have already completed the activity accurately, let us
make a generalization by answering these questions.
(Refer to Annex E for the distribution of activity sheets to the
students)
You got it all right! Always remember the steps in scientific investigation
and do not forget to apply it in a real-life situation.
Let us see what you have learned from the series of activities. Apply the
steps of scientific investigation to conduct a survey about the cases of
common non-communicable disease such as asthma based on a given
situation.

Possible answers:
1. Aim or problem
- Athena wants to conduct a survey to determine how many percent
of students have asthma symptoms based on the reports of the
teachers in school.
3. Method or procedure
- Athena will distribute medical questionnaires to the target students
and conduct interviews afterwards. She can also use a spirometer
or a device to measure how quickly the lungs can breathe out.
5. Conclusion
- There are 18 students, which represents 60% of the reported
students, who have symptoms of asthma.

Reading the Key Idea/Stem
Situation:
Dr. Manuel is the new health officer in Barangay Masagana. His responsibilities include
providing healthcare services and advancing health education. While doing the inventory, his staff
found out that there is a shortage of medical supplies, especially for non-communicable diseases
such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and asthma. His problem is he needed to identify the
number of eligible recipients for the request for medical supplies which are available in the
Provincial Health Office.
He immediately called the attention of the barangay council to plan the procedures of his
proposed free physical health assessment mission. Together with his colleagues, they produced
printed materials such as leaflets to inform all the people about the said mission including those
in far-flung areas. It includes medical background interviews, blood pressure monitoring, and a
fasting blood sugar test (FBS) in the barangay hall next week. They also invited other medical
professionals to be their partners in assessing the people's health status. After the mission, all
volunteers and medical professionals turned over the results during their meeting and post-
evaluation with Dr. Manuel. Finally, he concluded that he needs medical supplies that are enough
for a month for the 47 eligible recipients for high blood maintenance, 40 for diabetes patients, and
20 for asthma patients. Additionally, there are 34 people who needed further diagnosis and noted
that 51 out of 200 residents who attended the free physical health assessment mission had normal
health conditions.
