CommandCenter™ Simulator Activity

In this activity, the instructor leads the student through an activity on the
CommandCenter™ Simulator.

I. CommandCenter™ Display and Controls

1. Review the information on Home Page 1. What is the average crop moisture and the
average crop yield? Answer: 0 What is the threshing clearance? Answer: 30 mm
What is the threshing speed? Answer: 350 n/min What are the chaffer and sieve
settings? Answer: 18, 12 How many engine and threshing hours? Answer: 0 What
time of the day is it? Answer: current time Is the machine recording data? Answer: No

2. Using the gray button on the top, left-hand side of the CommandCenter™ Display,
navigate to Home Page 2. Notice that there are 6 additional functions that you can
monitor on Home Page 2.

3. Change between these 6 monitors using the CommandCenter™ Display Controls

located on the Armrest. Locate the Control Dial on the Armrest. Use this Control
Dial and highlight the 1st pull down menu. Use the Check Mark button to enter that
pull down menu. Use the Control Dial again to change what you are monitoring.
Change the setting to Average Bushels / Acre. Press the Check Mark button again to
enter that change.

4. Navigate back to Home Page 1 using the Armrest Controls. Notice that you can
navigate between Home Pages using either method.

5. Navigate to the Crops Page 1 of 4 pages. Use the Armrest Controls to change
between Wet Yield and Dry Yield.

6. Navigate to Crops Page 2. View the field productivity and harvest efficiency values.
Reset these values to zero using the bottom Reset Buttons. This data is now gone.

7. Navigate to Crops Page 3. View Field Totals. Notice the Pages button in the lower
right-hand portion of the screen. There is more information to view. Use the Armrest
Controls to view this additional information.
8. Use your Armrest Controls to select a different Farm, Field, and Crop. (You can
not enter a NEW Farm, Field, or Crop on this CommandCenter™ Simulator, but you can
on the real thing).

9. Navigate to Crops Page 4. View Crop Totals. Again, there is additional

information to view under the pages button.

10. Navigate to Combine Setup Page 1 of 5 pages. Use the Control Dial to change the
combine crop setting from Dry Corn to Wet Corn. These settings are factory settings
that can NOT be changed. You can name up to 10 custom settings per crop in the
CommandCenter™. (The CommandCenter™ Simulator DOES NOT have this
functionality)

11. Change between SetPoint and Actual. SetPoint is the theoretical value. Actual is
the actual setting that it is running (ie…you will see the rotor speed decrease in rpm when
you enter crop)

12. Navigate to Combine Setup Page 2. Change the crop to Soybeans. Notice that the
seed size changed automatically to 50. Change the seed size to 20. Changing the seed
size to 20 will make the loss monitor pads (cleaning system) more sensitive to loss than
the previous setting. This will affect how the VisionTrak™ Loss Monitor reacts. This
functionality was previously located on the 60 Series CommandTouch Cornerpost.

13. Navigate to Combine Setup Page 3. How many hours have you used a HydraFlex
Platform on this combine? Ans: 3 hours How many hours does that Hydraflex Platform
have on it? Ans: Who knows? The CommandCenter™ does not give you that
information. Why do we care about minimum reel speed? Ans. We may not want the
reel to slow down when the combine slows down (downed crop). Notice we have set the
cut width to 29.5 ft for a 30 ft platform. Width Change is the increment that we want to
control cut width. (We only care about this cut width if we are counting acres on Harvest
Monitor™. If we are using HarvestDoc™, this is done with the GS2 or Original
GreenStar™ Monitor).

14. Record Stop Height is the header height (percent up) at which we want the combine
to stop recording data. Note that if you move the feederhouse up to 80 percent of the
total height range and push the enter button, the value will change to 80 percent. (One
important note here to remember is that the automatic header Resume Button 1 (header
up out of crop) must be set higher than this value or the combine will continue recording
as it turns around on the ends.)

15. Navigate to Combine Setup Page 4. The first section of this page is the Moisture
Alarm. This alarm will sound when the crop moisture is outside of the limits that you set
on this page. Turn the Moisture Alarm ON and set the limits to Max 10 and Min 20.

16. Discuss the difference between Moisture Correction and Fixed Moisture. Consider
an example where the local elevator reading is thirteen percent and the combine moisture
reading of sixteen percent. What is the Moisture Correction value? Ans: -3 Enter that
value.

17. Navigate to Combine Setup Page 5. (This page will not exist on the
CommandCenter if you do not have a HarvestSmart™ equipped combine.) Explain
Smart Mode (RPM, Loss, Rotor Pressure) and Capacity Mode (RPM, Rotor Pressure).
Explain the 4 parameters. (Optional depending on time).

18. Navigate to Diagnostics Page 1. Here you will see any active alarms.

19. Navigate to Diagnostics Page 2. We can calibrate many functions from the cab.
Perform a header calibration. Notice how easy that was compared to the 60 Series.

20. Perform a Threshing Clearance Calibration.

II. CommandTouch™ Armrest Controls
1. Turn Differential Lock ON and OFF. Notice that the green LED light turns on.
Note that Differential Lock will automatically disengage when the speed is above 6.8
mph.

2. Turn the Parking Brake ON and OFF.

Note on ProDrive™ equipped combines, the Parking Brake will automatically engage
when the combine is in neutral (switch in the hydro handle) and the operator will never
see this happen (no light). If you manually turn on the Parking Brake, you must also
manually disengage it.

3. Idle speed adjustments are not active on this simulator. Just cover where they are
located. No change from 60 Series.

4. Now turn Road Transport Mode ON and OFF. This will turn off all combine
functions during transport. (unloading auger swing, separator, etc.)

5. Go to the Combine Home Page 1. Turn the Automatic SLS system ON and OFF.
Show the students how the combine picture changes to white when the system is OFF.
Now show them how to manually change the SLS angle. Note that the picture shows
this change in angle.

6. Turn the 4WD HIGH ON. Explain the conditions where an operator would want
4WD High. Now Turn 4WD LOW ON. Explain the conditions where an operator
would want 4WD LOW.

7. Push ProDrive™ Transmission Range 1 Button and limit the maximum speed to 7
mph. Push ProDrive™ Transmission Range 2 Button and limit the maximum speed to
15 mph.

8. Enable HarvestSmart™ and notice that you are in “Smart” Mode. Push
HarvestSmart™ Button again and notice that you are in “Capacity” Mode. Talk about
the difference between the two modes of operation. Also, go through the 4 parameters.
(If time allows)

9. Adjust the HydroFlex™ pressure to 1000 psi. Note that this is the pressure in the
HydroFlex™ cylinders. As this pressure increases, ground pressure decreases. As the
ground gets muddy, you increase this value. See Owner’s manual for details.

10. Adjust the Manual Header Raise / Lower Speed by pushing the button once and
using the Control Dial. Adjust the Automatic Header Sensitivity by pushing the button
twice. (This function does not work on the simulator). Note that these controls replaced
the dial controls under the armrest on a 60 Series Combine)
11. Adjust the Threshing Clearance to 36 mm. Notice that this function can be
controlled while harvesting. Also note that the black number will blink while the
concave adjustment is being made. When the motor is finished with the adjustment, the
screen will disappear automatically back to your previous page.

12. Adjust the Rotor Speed to 1000 RPM. Notice that as the rotor speed adjusts to
1000, the top black number will blink until the rotor reaches 1000. When decreasing
rotor speed, this can take a while.

13. Adjust the Draper Belt Speed to 30. (The simulator will not perform this function)

14. Adjust the Chaffer Position to 14. Notice that the black number blinks as the
chaffer moves.

15. Adjust the Sieve Position to 8.

16. Adjust the Spreader Speed to 350 RPM. This function was not available on 60
Series.

17. Fold the Optional Folding Auger to park the combine in the shed. Now unfold the
auger to continue harvesting.

18. When operating with a draper, adjust the Platform Angle. (This function does not
work on the simulator)

19. Set the Fan Speed to 1000 RPM.

20. Now Use the Menu Button to change the CommandCenter™ Display Settings.
(This simulator has limited capabilities here. Explain the “Sync with Cab” option.
