I.RATIONALE
CICM Missionaries are sent to different places wherein their missionary presence is most
needed. They bring hope and build a strong christian community that is willing to hear
teachings of Jesus Christ. Through the dedication and commitment of the Missionaries they
were able to successfully evangelized people with different cultures and backgrounds.
As a Marian student, I’ll start with being obedient, committed and responsible in my desire to
serve. Being a Medical Technology Intern, it is not a coincidence that by making sure that the
procedures I performed was accurate to help a doctor diagnose their disease is already in
lined with loving God with all my heart, soul, mind and strength. In my field we are called
the backbone of healthcare, the lives of the patients are our own responsibility so there is no
room for error as a respect to the rights and dignity of the patients regardless of who or what
they are. I have witnessed the care for God’s creation, to treat all bodily fluids as infectious
and so we have color coded garbages to separate the general waste from the infectious waste.
In that way we are also doing it for the common good of the garbage collectors. Moreover,
just like the Missionaries I am also willing to spend my whole life serving, being
compassionate and find ways to further enhance the CICM mission.
IV. JOURNAL
CARE FOR MOTHER EARTH
What: To take care for Environment
When: Everyday
Where: Hospital and Community
Indeed that the simplest way of showing care for mother earth is through proper waste
disposal. It is very common to us but honestly speaking, not everyone properly dispose their
waste. As a medical technology intern I am so proud that the hospital that I am currently
working is strict when it comes to waste disposal. Of course we all know that hospitals has
inpatients suffering from different diseases whether it is infectious or not. The first laboratory
section assigned to me is Bacteriology, from the word it self we are encountering specimens
like urine, blood, sputum (phlegm), pleural fluid, cerebrospinal fluid, and etc. which we are
not sure if bacteria is present in that sample. I observed that urine samples has its own
garbage bin, blood cultures has its own too, the general waste which contains plastics from
non infectious and the gloves. The second and third laboratory section is Out-patient and
Emergency Department, I expected a lot of proper waste disposal here, from the syringes that
we used we have to separate the needle and barrel, cottons and gloves. The last department
was Clinical Chemistry, we also did the same way when we are in the OPD and ER
department. So, in order to enhance the CICM mission I am so careful of disposing my waste
and encourage my partner to also do it. I also had the time to share to her why I am so careful
of disposing the waste, aside from the sake of environment I am also worried to those people
who work as garbage collector in the hospital. What if we accidentally dispose needle with
infectious disease, it might cause them to acquire infections or the worst scenario will be they
might get disease that has no cure like for an example HIV. Through this simple objective I
hope that it has a great eye opener to my co-interns to care for environment and also to people
who risk themselves just to maintain the cleanliness of the hospital.
