Piper Aircraft, Inc.

2926 Piper Drive
BULLETIN
Vero Beach, FL, U.S.A. 32960
PIPER CONSIDERS
COMPLIANCE MANDATORY
Date: October 4, 2024 (S)

SUBJECT: FLAP BRACKET GAP INSPECTION

MODELS AFFECTED: SERIAL NUMBERS AFFECTED:

PA-46-600TP M600 4698001 thru 4698291
PA-46-701TP M700 Fury 46020001 thru 46020026

COMPLIANCE TIME: To coincide with the next regularly scheduled maintenance event, but not to
exceed the next 100 hours time in service

APPROVAL: The engineering aspects of this service document have been shown to comply
with the applicable Federal Aviation Regulations and are FAA approved.

PURPOSE: Some of the affected aircraft may have flap brackets that were not properly
deburred prior to installation. Over time, a flap bracket in this condition may
become loose in service and eventually seperate from the flap.

This service bulletin provides instructions for the inspection, and on condition
rework of the flap brackets.

INSTRUCTIONS:

NOTE: The inspection portion of this service bulletin can be performed with the flaps installed on the aircraft.
NOTE: The following instructions apply to the left and right wings.
1. Gain visual access to the flap brackets (2 per wing). See Figure 1.
2. Using a flashlight and mirror, inspect for gaps by attempting to pass light through the interface between the flap
skin and the bracket mating surface.
• If light can pass through, then a gap exists between mating surfaces. Slide a 0.003 inch curved feeler
gage between flap skin and bracket mating surface. If feeler gage can touch bolt shank, rework is required.
Proceed to step 3.
• If light does not pass through, or 0.003 inch curved feeler gage does not touch bolt shank, rework is not
required. Proceed to step 9.
3. Remove the flap, refer to chapter 57-50-00 of the applicable Piper airplane maintenance manual (AMM) for
instructions on flap removal.
4. For each bracket that is to be reworked, carefully drill out all three (3) Huckbolts at the locations identified in
Figure 2, using the following procedure:
a. Drill out the lock ring using a #30 drill bit.
b. Punch out the stem.
c. Drill out the sleeve using a #20 drill bit.

primers listed in Table 1.
6. Secure the flap bracket to the flap as shown in section B-B (outboard) or section C-C (inboard) of Figure 1 using
three (3) MS90354S0503 Huckbolts, Piper P/N 423-178, for outboard brackets and three (3) MS90354S0502
Huckbolts, Piper P/N 484-885, for inboard brackets.
7. Reinstall the flap, refer to chapter 57-50-00 of the applicable Piper AMM for instructions on flap installation.
8. Perform a functional check on any systems that were disturbed during compliance with this service bulletin.
9. Make a logbook entry documenting compliance with this service bulletin.
