Development of six lane Basanwahi – Marangpuri section of NH-130 -CD road
from km. 99+500 to km 124+661 under Raipur – Visakhapatnam economical
corridor in the state of Chhattisgarh on Hybrid Annuity Mode (Package CG-

1. INDRODUCTION:
General Bridge embankment is a combination of earth fill, linear reinforcing strips and facing panels
that are capable of bearing highway load and large tensile stresses. In earlier method, granular materials
and soil were used as fill. The soil reinforcements used in earlier method were steel bars and geosynthetic
materials. The reinforcement provided by these strips enable the soil mass to resist the tension in a way
which the soil alone could not resist. The source of this resistance to tension is the internal friction of soil,
because the stresses that are created within the mass are transferred from soil to the reinforcement strips
by friction. CIP Cantilever/ Counterfort Retaining walls, Gravity Blocks Retaining wall and Sheet
pile/Anchored walls were used as skin of the structure. There is necessary for modernization of bridge
embankment using the results from the above construction method. The factors considered for
modernization are faster construction, pore water pressure, corrosion of soil reinforcement, differential
settlement, construction cost and economical usage of land.

The road land width of Embankment with in alignment shall be cleared to proper
line and level before dumping.
Reference peg marking at desirable intervals shall be provided along the Center
line/Sides at the toe line.
Foundation for the precast RE Facia Panels (Levelling Pad) to be provided to proper
Line and level with required thickness as in drawing.
Precast Panels to be laid to proper alignment and required levels as per the
drawing and as per the procedure of construction methodology.
After providing the precast panels to proper alignment and level, 1 st layer of the
Backfill embankment soil / Fly ash / Pond ash material to be provided to bottom of
the cavity connector, material to be spread in between walls and to be graded and
well compacted to required density.
After ensuring the required degree of compaction, reinforcing material
(Geostrip/Paraweb/Geogrid/Geostrap) to be provided with all necessary accessories
complete as per design and requirement.
After providing the reinforcing material, successive backfill layer to be provided.
Backfilling of structures along the dumping are shall be compacted to proper levels
with required degree compaction.
Dumping of materials to be done at suitable intervals for the case of spreading and
grading requirement.
Geo textile fabric/filter materials of required width the to be provided at the face of
RE Wall to required height material to be spread to a uniform thickness of hot more
than 0.4 M to proper levels and grade in between the RE Walls to complete width/to
the end of Filter Media.
Material/layer Properties & Supporting Embankment Layer to be ensured before
dumping of further Layers of fly/pond ash.
In case of partial height RE walls, after reading the fill height of Embankment upto
top of RE wall, core fill material of fly/pond ash shall be provided with earth cover

material to required width (1 to 3m) based on the height of fill 3M on either side of
core fill along with intermediate earth layers of 400 mm thick after every 1.2m
height fly ash layers as per the approved Drawing. The soil at fly ash used shall
have specification as per the MORTH with P.I of 5 to 9%.
The Embankment fill with fly/pond ash materials to be continued to the 0.5 m below
the embankment top level.
The side soil cover of required width should be constructed on the sides along the
Embankment 200mm thick compacted layers. Compaction of the layers shall be
ensured to achieve as per the standards and specification of MORTH & other
relevant IRC codes.
Each compacted layer shall be finished parallel to the profile and subsequent layers
shall be placed after the finish of the all test for quality requirements of density and
compaction as specified in quality control specification clause.
Quality control test to be done as per the frequency requirements of relevant
technical and contract requirements.
Acceptance criteria for each layer shall be FDD (field dry density) test results.
The layer shall be considered approved for layer on achieving average compaction
of 97% and meets criteria of standard deviation as per MORTH.
FORMATS
The OH & Safety and Environment Management Plan for the project to be followed
as mentioned in contract documents.
ENVIRONMENTAL SAFETY
Water shall be sprinkled along the bed for dust pollution Management at regular
intervals as and when bed becomes dry.
All the vehicles shall be covered to avoid slaying materials.
