Introduction

Introduction
Congratulations on purchasing the Triple Dog Downloader. The Triple Dog is manufactured exclusively by Bully
Dog Technologies, it is the only downloader on the market that offers on-the-fly tuning. The Triple Dog Down-
loader will work on most late model Dodge, GM, and Ford diesel pickups and SUV; see the application chart on
the next page for details. Horsepower results and features will vary from vehicle to vehicle. The installation/
operating instructions will specify which of the available features apply to each truck.

See our vehicle application chart on the next page to identify your vehicle application.

This product is extremely easy to install. All installation takes place inside the cab of the vehicle through
the OBDII port. For installation questions or guidance contact your local dealer or distributor. You can also
contact the Bully Dog tech support group Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm Mountain Standard Time.
Bully Dog Technical Support: (866) 285-5936.

Installation of this product can take up to 60 minutes. We strongly suggest that installation of the Triple
Dog™ be done when the vehicle is not in need of use. We highly recommend that this product be in-
stalled during normal business hours: Monday-Friday 8am to 5pm Mountain Standard Time to avoid any
inconveniences associated with installation issues. Installation of the program into the vehicle ECM is an
easy but delicate process. The download process, if interrupted, can create issues which may add time to
complete a successful install.

Installation Precautions

Installation Precautions: (VERY important)

It is important to take some precautions before downloading, changing settings, or returning to
stock. These precautionary steps to installing the Triple Dog™ will help ensure that downloads
are successful.

1. Before installation, always update the Triple Dog™ online using our Update Agent. The Triple Dog™ is an online
program that loads the latest vehicle programs from our web site to the Triple Dog.
2. Only install during regular business hours. (Monday-Friday 8am-5pm Mountain Standard Time)
3. Do not install while the vehicle is in a remote location or when the vehicle is immediately needed for transpor-
tation. In the unlikely event that installation fails, the installer may need resources such as computer access
and internet access to complete installation.
4. Allow up to one hour for installation. The Triple Dog™ easily installs in under 30 minutes. However, allocate at
least an hour for installation in case any problems are encountered during installation.
5. Before installation, always make sure that the batteries have a full charge. It is even a good idea to have a bat-
tery charger nearby in case the batteries start draining. If the batteries loose their charge during a download,
the download will fail.
6. Before installation, turn off all electronics inside the vehicle including: headlights, heater, air conditioning,
stereo, any DVD players, etc. Failing to turn off all electronics may can prevent a successful download.
7. Before installation always pull all of the recommended fuses seen in the section labeled “Fuse information,”
in this instruction manual.
8. During installation it is very important that the Triple Dog™ is not disrupted. If the download is disrupted the
vehicle may not start and the download process must be restarted. In worst case scenarios the Triple Dog™
will have to perform a recovery process which adds even more time to the installation process.

The information above is extremely important to successful use of the Triple Dog

IMPORTANT
It is not recommended that this product be used in conjunction with any other electronic module or downloader
that is intended to increase horsepower.
Performance products must always be removed before taking the vehicle in for any kind of service. The Bully Dog
software will be lost if an OEM scan tool is used to reflash the engine computer.

Installation Introduction

Installation introduction/OBDII port

This is a very simple product to install and operate; all operations take place inside the cab of the vehicle with
the Triple Dog™ hooked up to the OBDII port. Operating the Triple Dog™ does not require any mechanical
background. This product does not limit the amount
of times that a download can be entered and re-
moved from a vehicle, but it will only work on one
vehicle at a time.

The diagram below illustrates the general location

of the OBDII port on any of the vehicles listed in the
vehicle application chart.

• Aggressive: For quick and firm shifts. The firmness and quickness of shifts will increase significantly over
stock. This application works well with high performance aftermarket transmissions. We do not recommend that
this application be used while towing.
• Smooth: For the non-aggressive every day driver or those who tow on a regular basis. This application is most
effective when used with our power settings set from 50 to 80.
• Stock: As more horsepower is added to a normal shifting stock transmission, the internal components break down
faster. Not recommended with any of the power settings above 50 additional horsepower.

Other Options
The Other Options menu item contains a sub menu with three different options depending on the ve-
hicle applications. It contains DTC functions which will read DTCs off of the vehicle computer and erase
them. It will also for certain applications contain a DPF burn-off feature for GM and Dodge vehicles
that have a diesel particulate filter. The descriptions below describe each menu item and function in
detail.

DTCs or diagnostic trouble codes are warnings saved on the engine computer that generally
point to a particular malfunction in the vehicle. DTCs are an excellent method of diagnosing a ve-
hicle, in fact this method is used by the OEM.
Check DTCs:
This function will look for any diagnostic trouble codes stored in the engine computer and will display all of the
codes on the Triple Dog screen. Notice that most codes are accompanied by a description of the code. The diagram
below illustrates the checking DTCs process.
