My name is Roshan Bhandary, I am writing this letter to express my sincere interest in pursuing a master degree in Human-Centered Computing at University of Regina. As I have completed my undergraduate study in Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Applications (BCA). It has been a wonderful journey since I got a chance to learn the relationships between different technologies such as either its design and developing, networking, monitoring and testing, etc. and their useability approach in different industries and communities. Throughout my academic journey, I have consistently determined for excellence either it is in academic performance or in outdoor activities. With thorough research and motivation to achieve a master degree in Human-Centered Computing in Canada, I believe University of Regina will be a best option for me. Specific Area of Interest and Motivation There are thousands of courses to pursue in a graduate program and what I believe is to go with something that helps you to polish your dream and make yourself a best candidate against what you stand for. My passion for Human-Centered computing began during my undergraduate study, specifically when I was in fourth semester, there I was doing a project named “Online Food Ordering System” and I got a task to build a user-friendly web-interface for that I was struggling a bit but, in that struggle, I found myself enjoying those practice of finding new solutions, taking notes on user requirements more efficiently, examining previous projects on similar topic, etc. Later, with the recommendation from my project supervisor, a project partner was assigned to me, Mr. Nirmal Subedi, a classmate, introduced me to the fundamental aspects of Human-Centered Computing such as user-centered design, human-computer interaction, usability, ethical considerations, coloration and communication, etc. Which later, helped me to build my interest in understanding the bridge gap between computing systems and humans. Along with UI/UX knowledge gained from different projects that I have come across and internships program, I strongly inclined in support of better human-computer interaction. In addition, During the COVID-19 wave, we all were in a lockdown situation and there was nothing except to rely more upon science and technology but the problem was many people in Nepalese community did not have a guidance and knowledge of interacting with these technologies such as for electronic payment people have had to request for a another person who knows how to pay electronically and for them what I believe is to we can develop a better UI/UX so that each and every individual will get benefited . So, the engagement in various projects and internships, which further fueled my interest in this interdisciplinary field. Education History and Relevancy Mentioning my education history, my schooling was in Bishwa Prakash Higher Secondary School, Chitwan, Nepal from where I gained my school leaving certificate with 77.25% in 2015 A.D. Then after, I wished to make “Science/Physics” my major stream for high school, so I opted Saptagandaki Multiple Campus, Chitwan, Nepal and from there I received my higher studies certificate with 67.80% in 2017 A.D. After that, I took an 8 months certification course in “Computer Fundamentals and Programming Skills”, which helped me to clear out my undergraduate program entrance exam and gain an overview of IT industry at some level. In 2018 (A.D.), I chose “Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Application” and pursue academic curriculum in Lumbini I.C.T. Campus until 2023 (A.D.) under Tribhuvan University and passed with a CGPA of 3.47 out of 4.00. I have always been in learning new skills that the current market has to offer. In undergraduate program I was exposed to some skills rejuvenating projects and the different programming languages and databases such as C, Java, Python and MySQL, MongoDB, PostgreSQL and frameworks like ReactJS/Native, Django, etc. with the curriculum like Mathematics-I & II, Microprocessor and Computer Architecture, Data Structure and Algorithms, System Analysis and Design, Software Engineering, Database Management System, Advance Java Programming, Computer Graphics and Animation, Mobile Programming, Artificial Intelligence etc. led me to choose Human-Centered Computing as the best program for my graduate study. Reason to Choose University of Regina Before considering further study in a foreign university, firstly, I have gone through some renown universities in Nepal either it is Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu University or Pokhara University, but there, the programs available are not concrete focused upon human-centered computing either they are mixed up or it is computer science altogether or some engineering courses. As I have been intimidated by the interdisciplinary aspect of Computer Science in Human-Centered Computing, which combines computer science with human factors engineering and cognitive science, I choose to go for Canada and with some research I surfed some university and a University of Regina is on top in my list, where I got the perfect course of program and it is itself in Saskatchewan, a regional place where urban amenities always play a big role with natural beauties, cultural experiences, etc. Additionally, the university has 10 faculties and 25 academic departments and schools, so I got a plenty of chance to have some scholars to exchange ideas and skills with actively participating in some volunteered work as well and the city is quite small which can be covered in 20 minutes by car. Furthermore, I have seen some MSc. Human-Centered Computing graduates and other subject graduates from University of Regina such as Mr. Darshit Karkar, Mr. Shubam Pandya, Mr. Jatin Pritmani, etc. and all of them are doing great as far as my research in LinkedIn, Instagram and through studying their research papers. According to webometric.info, globally recognized institution comes under world top 800 universities and in the list of top 30 universities in Canada itself, there will be top-notch education, career-centric environment that keeps in mind of real- life experiences, centered on ethics, integrity, social responsibilities, network opportunities, quality of life, faculty expertise, program reputation with reasonable tuition fee. Thus, I am excited and looking forward to get an admission in this university and achieve a foundation to my future career that contribute to society and achieve my aspirations not only in Canada but as well as in Nepal. Hope to Learn It is an interdisciplinary program that has been taught by many universities across the world but the two aspects of this program are practitioner path and research path as far as I know, as I choose a course- based option lead towards practitioner track from I solely want to have a base upon the user experience and information architecture. As I strongly believe I will get a chance to have a hand on “User experience design, User Interface Design, developing systems that solve problems with users in distributed environments, working in human-centered multimedia, augmented and virtual reality, system design, etc.” with a hand on project in a supportive environment. It is inevitable that I will get an environment that will help me to make myself a better person and disciple who eager to have his experience in real world with social responsibilities in science and information technology aligns perfectly with my own ethical professional goals. All overall, the education level and the cultural prosperity with leaders and professionals’ guidance and support I believe I will accomplish my master degree from the University of Regina with colorful grades and inclined my career in the art of designing user experiences and developing applications that will conclude the human requirements efficiently.
