STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

(Applying for MS in Computer Science)

I was born and brought up in an era of computers. I cannot imagine a single day of my life
without a computer. Right from early childhood, I saw my family interacting with it. I used to
wonder, what this machine was. But once, when my parents allowed me to use it, I have
never stopped interacting with it. I still remember my first interaction with the computer is to
add two numbers. I always used to wonder, how this system works and how does it have
knowledge like a human. As a child at school, most of my holidays were occupied by
designing and developing games in HTML/CSS. Developing something that was never there
earlier in my life kindled my interest in the field of Software Development. Also, my love
towards logic made me understood that numbers and logic coexist. Neither of them can
transpire without the other. My interest in Arts, Science and Technology provoked me to
spend a lot of time analyzing and solving the problems. This improved my analytical, creative
and quantitative skills and encouraged me to choose Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry as
my major in high school.

At the beginning of my under-graduation, I had a basic knowledge of computers. Once I

turned to be an Information Technology student, I was exhilarated in communicating with the
machine using languages like C, C++, Java. Mastering the concepts that are unique to each of
these languages gave me a great understanding of yet important side - "the evolution of
programming languages" and the motivation behind it. Thanks to our highly dedicated
educators. The foundation was well laid with productive syllabi. Subjects like Mobile
Application Development, Java, Web Technologies, Database Management Systems, Cyber
Security, Cloud Computing are my favorite as they made me interact with real-world
problems. My interest in DBMS paved me a path to get certified as Oracle Database SQL
Certified Associate. My interaction with technology was never detached in my career, as I did
a two-month summer internship at Dot Labs Web Technologies where I gained hands-on
industrial experience. Needless to say, I thoroughly enjoyed being a student of Information
Technology, as it was in consonance with my outlook on life - "being logical”. My efforts in
academics not only provided me with an aggregate of 81.55% making me one of the best
students but also were paid off when I was chosen for our college IT Department’s
PoCprojects, where I completed both my mini and major projects. Of the two, the final
project titled "File Tracking System" was well appreciated.

I am fortunate that my abilities were not confined to academics. In college, after-school clubs
changed me as a person. Being a part and parcel of the student-run non-profit organization -
"Student Force" which strives to create a positive change in the society, made me an active
worker and organizer of many events. The club helped me to interact with different social-
workers, motivators and sufferers. I understood that life is much beyond living for ourselves
and happiness is achieved only through sharing and contributing to society.

My creative skills paved me a path to lead the Creative Arts Club of our college, where we
have embellished the college, organized many cultural events and gained appreciations.
Being an IT student and having designing knowledge helped me in establishing a startup
named DCOPS (virtual to reality and reality to virtual) at an early age, where I was able to
gather like-minded people. We designed, developed and delivered many products not only at
our college but also at other private and public organizations, which brought us a huge fame.

I always equip myself with the best of knowledge in order to pursue higher studies. However,
I felt it would be more sensible if I chose the role of real-time developer. This led me to work
for Tata Consultancy Services Ltd where I worked for multiple clients. My immense
Multinational Organizational exposure at TCS, in the span of 2.6 years has been prominent in
my career. With my exceptional services to our clients for over two years, I received many
client appreciations for the contribution towards delivering the projects in time.

Opting to gain work experience is one of the best decisions I made because besides building
professionalism. It helped me to realize and redefine the real purpose of pursuing Master’s
degree to enhance my knowledge and skills. With continuous and drastic improvements in
technology, I understood that a simple IT major may not be enough to be a leader in this
field.

In my view, the human knowledge life cycle is as follows:

“Learning”—“Knowing”—“Sharing”—“Contributing”—“Mastering”—“Learning”

In my 2+ years of work experience, I tasted evermore satisfaction in contributing. I believe

that I can learn and contribute a lot by earning a Master’s degree that will give me knowledge
of the advanced concepts & practices, which will augment my competencies to a new level.

Besides the fact that Louisiana State University has the unique distinction of being at the
forefront of innovation and offering world-class exposure to its graduates. I would be excited
and privileged to learn from accomplished professors of your university whose exemplary
work in the field of Computer Science has a worldwide reputation. The experience-based
learning and the rigorous course structure will provide me a platform to supplement my
learning and to further delve into the area of my interest. The excellent facilities offered by
your department will provide an environment conducive to successful graduate work - these
are much superior to those available to a graduate student in India.

Taking all these factors into account, I am confident that different skills which I picked up
from past endeavors along with my professional experience coupled with my enthusiasm to
learn new things, will definitely aid me to excel in my graduate work.

It is with a sincere hope that I look forwardto being a part of your academic community soon.
