1. The two major compounds in the body are organic compounds and inorganic
compounds. Organic compounds are a large class of chemical compounds in which one
or more atoms of carbon are covalently bonded to atoms with different elements. They
are used as a source of energy within the cells which are important to the body.
Inorganic compounds are the substance that doesn’t have hydrogen and carbon, it
includes minerals and water. Sometimes, it does contain hydrogen atoms and carbon
Proteins - substances were containing the elements carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, and
nitrogen.
Nucleic Acids - found in animal and plant cells that participate in the storage,
Lipids – composed of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen like carbohydrates; however, lipids
Vitamins - substances present in small amounts in natural foodstuffs which are essential
Water - vehicle in the body for all physiological activities that are necessary for life to
take place.
Gases – elements in the body in which useful in every processes in body and also a
waste product.
Salts - Sodium chloride, commonly called dietary salt, is essential to our body. The
human body regulates how much sodium it contains. If levels are too high, we get thirsty
and drink, and the kidneys speed up the process of getting rid of it.
3. The organic compounds are very important in biochemical activities in the body.
It is important in building and repairing body tissues and the production of important
chemicals in order for our body to function correctly. The inorganic compounds are
important in the body because it consists of minerals and water which helps in
metabolism, blood circulation, and oxygenation. It is also important for the homeostasis
of the body.
