b.) explain the significance of estimating different measurement quantities in real-life
contexts; and
c.) apply their understanding of approximation to solve real-world problems involving
measurement quantities.

always great when everyone is here
and ready to learn.

May I remind you again, class, that

we all play a part in making our
classroom a great place to learn.
Remember our ABCs:

Active Listening: Listen carefully

when someone is talking.

Be Kind: Treat each other with

respect and kindness, just like we
want to be treated

Come Prepared: Bring your energy

and ideas to the table, ready to
learn and share.

Together, we can create an amazing

learning environment.

B. Review This morning, we are going to start

our discussion by reviewing the
correct unit of measurements you
should use when you want to
measure something.

a knowledge when to use the
different kinds of unit of
measurements.

D. Presentation of the Lesson Okay, since you know how to

estimate measurements, can you 1. We use measurements

2. Measurements are vital
for monitoring our
health.
3. We use them to plan
trips.
4. We use measurements
Precisely! Measurements are to budget our money.
essential for almost everything we
do! They help us understand and
interact with the world around us.
Think about it – how would we
build houses, bake cakes, or even
tell time without them?

We use measurements every day,

often without realizing it. While
accurate measurements are crucial
for many tasks, approximations are
sometimes sufficient. Today's
lesson, “Approximating
Measurement Quantities”, will
help us understand how to make
reasonable approximations for
different types of measurements.

E. Lesson Proper

1. Activity Before going further to our lesson,

let us do this activity.

estimates.

2. Analysis

Now, let us try to take a look at

your recorded estimation.

1. How far the distance of I used my knowledge of how

school to the chosen long it takes to walk a certain
location (in meters or distance and how fast cars go
kilometers)? to guess the time it would
take.
2. What is the approximate
time it would take to walk
or drive there?

3. What is the estimated

temperature at that location?

4. What strategies did you use

to estimate the distances,
times, or temperatures?

Next, to verify your estimation, let

us see if your answers are the same
or near with the exact distance,
time it would take to walk or drive
there, and the temperature of these
places.

Teacher and students are now

comparing the estimations to its
correct/exact measurements.

3. Abstraction In our daily lives, we often

encounter situations where exact
measurements are not necessary or
even possible. In such cases, we
rely on approximation, the process
of estimating a value that is close to
the actual measurement.

Based on your experiences, when

did you use approximation of
measurement? When I’m buying vegetables,

When calculating the total of

Approximation also has a great

contribution to our daily living.

Now, what is the importance of

approximation?
Approximation allows us to
make quick mental
calculations without needing
precise tools or lengthy

By estimating quantities, we can

make timely decisions, particularly
in situations where exact values are
not immediately available.

That’s right!

Now, identify the approximate

measurement quantity they
chose. The clue should be a
question that hints at the
measurement.
Example: If a group chose

write: "How much liquid
can this object hold?"
5. Share the Clues: Groups
take turns reading their
clues aloud. The other
groups try to guess what

6. If a group correctly guesses
the measurement quantity
and the object, they get a

7. Set a timer for 10 minutes.

ready to take the quiz.

II. Directions: Read and analyze each item carefully. Calculate the given problem and give
its correct measurements.
1. Consider the given situation:
An airplane bound for Beijing took off from the Ninoy Aquino International Airport at 11:15
a.m. Its estimated time of arrival in Beijing is at 1555 hrs. The distance from Manila to
Beijing is 2839 km.
Questions:
a. What time (in standard time) is the plane supposed to arrive in Beijing?
b. How long is the flight?
c. What is the plane’s average speed?

2. Estimate the measurement of the given angles, then check your estimates by measuring
the same angles using your protractor.
