QUESTIONS

1. EXPLAIN WHY THE STUDY OF MEASUREMENT AND EVALUATION IS

IMPORTANT IN YOUR FIELD OF STUDY.

2. DISCUSS THREE KEY PRINCIPLES THAT GUIDE THE PROCESS OF ASSESMENT.

3. DISCUSS FOUR STRATEGIES AND TECHNIQUES THAT TEACHERS CAN

EMPLOY TO USE ASSESMENT FOR LEARNING EFFECTIVELY IN THE
CLASSROOM.
QUESTION ONE

Measurement and evaluation is a very cogent factor in my field of study which is English

language education as it enables our teachers to assess student progress, identify areas where

they may require improvement and also helps the teachers to make informed instruction.

This practice when done properly and effectively helps to promote student learning,

motivation, and accountability.

QUESTION TWO

1. VALIDITY: Validity ensures that the assessment measures what it claims to measure. In

other words, it refers to the extent to which an assessment measures what it is

supposed to measure. This requires the assessment to be based on clear learning

objectives, be relevant and free from cultural bias.

2. RELIABILITY: This refers to the consistency and dependability of an assessment in

measuring student learning. It ensures there is no form of inconsistencies in results and

that it is free from errors and biases as well. Using appropriate scoring methods and a

sufficient number of tasks is necessary in achieving this principle.

3. FAIRNESS: In assessment, fairness is the absence of bias and discrimination of all forms

and kinds. This means all students have an equal opportunity to demonstrate their

knowledge, skills and abilities. In fairness, there are no stereotypes of any sort, no

specific disadvantage or advantage of gender, race or socio-economic status.

QUESTION THREE

1. Formative assessment: This occurs during the process of teaching. It is used to inform

instruction and improve student learning.

 Technique: quizzes, class discussions and exit slips

2. Self-assessment: it is this stage that encourages students to reflect on their learning

process.

 Technique: learning journals and reflective essays.

3. Peer assessment: this takes place amongst learning groups where they evaluate and

provide feedback on their learning.

 Technique: peer reviews and group projects.
